Tarakeshwar ( Nepali तार्केश्वर ) is a city ( municipality ) in the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal and belongs to the Kathmandu metropolitan area .

The city, located in the northwest of the Kathmandu district , was created in 2014 by amalgamating the seven Village Development Committees (VDCs) Dharmasthali , Goldhunga , Jitpurphedi , Kabhresthali , Manmaiju , Phutung and Sangla . The city administration is located in the administration building of the former VDC Dharmasthali. The urban area covers 34.9 km². Tarakeshwar borders directly on the capital Kathmandu in the south. The southern part of the urban area is very populous.

Residents

At the 2011 census, the VDCs that made up the city of Tarakeshwar had 81,443 inhabitants (41,376 male) in 20,158 households.
