Gokarneshwar ( Nepali गोकर्णेश्वर ) is a city ( municipality ) in the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal and belongs to the Kathmandu metropolitan area .
The city, located in the northeast of the Kathmandu district , was created in 2014 by merging the five Village Development Committees (VDCs) Baluwa , Gokarna , Jorpati , Nayapati and Sundarijal . The city administration is located in the administration building of the former VDC Jorpati. The urban area covers 58.5 km². Gokarneswor borders directly on the capital Kathmandu in the southwest. The southern part of the urban area is very populous. In the north of Gokarneshwar, in the former VDC Sundarijal, a wooded ridge rises, which is partly in the Shivapuri-Nagarjun National Park .
Residents
At the 2011 census, the VDCs, from which the city of Gokarneshwar emerged, had 107,351 inhabitants (53,725 of them male) in 27,106 households.
