The Perfect Crime is a television film from the crime series Tatort , which first aired on March 15, 2020. It is the 1124th episode in the series and the eleventh case of the Berlin team of investigators Rubin and Karow .

action

The student Mina Jiang is shot dead in the middle of Berlin at noon. Commissioners Rubin and Karow determine that the shot was fired from the nearby Berlin School of Law, an elite private university for the training of lawyers. At this university there is the Colloquium Conatus, an elite group of ambitious students who only accept one new member per year. The current candidate, Benjamin, has to pass a tough test of courage. His friend Luise, who is also the friend of the murder victim, advises him not to become involved in the secret society. His gray eminence, Professor Liere, whose paths Commissioner Karow already crossed during his dropped out law degree, well connected, has also placed his son in this elite association. Finally, the son is exposed as the perpetrator. But for a long time he managed - and that was the motive - to "prove" his superiority and incriminate others, especially the newbie preferred by his father. Finally, it is shown that Benjamin remains “on board” in the league when the next candidate is welcomed.

background

The film was shot in Berlin from June 25, 2019 to July 24, 2019 . Filming locations included the Gendarmenmarkt and the Villa Rohn (“Lion's Villa”) on Gregor-Mendel-Strasse in Potsdam. The corner house, in which the fictional "Berlin School of Law" is housed and from which the fatal shot is said to have been fired, is actually an office building on Markgrafenstrasse, corner of Mohrenstrasse (house number 33).

The name “Colloquium Conatus” refers to the term Conatus , which has been used in philosophy since ancient times and describes, among other things, a person's urge to improve through conscious effort. The motto “I can, because I want what I have to”, which is attributed to Immanuel Kant , and the Latin phrase Per aspera ad astra, which they also recite several times, fits in with this . When it comes to the unconditional loyalty that the association demands of its members, the legal principle Pacta sunt servanda is called, which actually stands for the general duty of contractual compliance in civil law.

reception

Reviews

Some critics expressed dissatisfaction with the film. Christian Buß from Spiegel, for example, only awarded two out of ten possible points and highlighted it as "particularly bad" that the filmmakers are trying to "increase the campus crime thriller to a secret society thriller including fight club wood and cowl theater". Inna Hartwich criticized the film in the NZZ as "a lot of clichés " and as "evil". He wanted a lot and offered little, and the commissioners would only “unimaginatively investigate”, while the development of the two main characters from the previous Berlin crime scene would not be continued.

Other critics, however, rated the film mostly positive. The film service awarded three out of five possible stars and praised the film as being staged with “a certain sense of tension”. The story would increasingly drift “into the absurd”, but good actors would “make the film's weak points largely forgotten”. TAZ editor Andreas Hergeth said that apart from a few clichés [...] the film is a pretty perfect 'crime scene' that is not only cleverly thought out, nicely ambivalent and exciting, but is also well played, offers strong dialogues and is therefore simply fun power. A superb didactic piece about manipulation and about the fact that of course there can be no perfect crime. "
