Rabies is a television film from the crime scene crime series by ARD , ORF and SRF .

The film, produced on behalf of WDR , was first broadcast on television on February 4, 2018; The film premiered on November 25, 2017 at the Lünen Cinema Festival . It is the eleventh case of investigators Faber, Bönisch and Dalay , played by Jörg Hartmann , Anna Schudt and Aylin Tezel .

In the prison in Dortmund , a prisoner dies of rabies without having come into contact with a sick animal. The investigations reveal that the inmate was deliberately infected with the virus in a knife fight, and that JVA doctor Dr. Zander, a former colleague of Faber, Bönisch and Dalay, was infected in the stabbing and is facing his death. The Dortmund Tatort team tries to clear up the background to the murder. In the next few days, more prisoners died of rabies-like symptoms, but they were known to have been poisoned. JVA director Angelika Zerrer fears an uprising in the under-staffed facility due to the incidents and possible contamination of the building.

Faber suspects a connection to the serial killer Markus Graf, who is considered the alleged murderer of Faber's family and was recently transferred to the Dortmund prison. By fixating the investigation on Graf, Faber draws the displeasure of his fellow investigators, especially Dalay. Graf points out to Faber that the Albanian Tomek Kodra could have initiated the murders so that he could be freed in the event of an evacuation of the prison and thus avoid being deported to Albania, where he is threatened with the revenge of the Albanian mafia .

In fact, the prison is evacuated and the prisoner transport that takes place, from which Kodra is excluded at the last second, is attacked. Graf manages to escape.

The film ends with a cliffhanger : after a message from the fugitive Count, Faber finds the body of his lawyer and a photo of Faber's daughter. Graf had placed it very conspicuously in order to provoke Faber.

Horizontal plot

After recovering from the injuries suffered in Sturm , Kossik started his service at LKA Düsseldorf. Dalay misses him and since she is dissatisfied with Faber's investigative work in the current case, she too is considering moving to Düsseldorf. Faber tries to improve the mood in the investigative team and to keep Dalay. Graf's escape causes Dalay to stay in Dortmund.

With the return of the character Graf is directly linked to the episode Forever Yourself, in which he was convicted as a likely murderer of Faber's family.
