history

The tar furnace colony was first mentioned in 1665. At that time there was only one pitch furnace in the village , which was used to burn tar , pitch and pine oil . The wood for burning was supplied from the surrounding forests. In 1718 a second tar kiln was put into operation. After the Congress of Vienna , the place that had previously belonged to the Kingdom of Saxony was reclassified into the Kingdom of Prussia . There was Teerofen in district Cottbus the administrative district of Frankfurt in the province of Brandenburg . In the topographical-statistical overview of the administrative district of Frankfurt ad O. , the place was named Tauer in 1840 and had 48 inhabitants. In 1852 the tar distillery in tar kiln was closed. In 1864 the settlement, then known as the Tauerscher Teerofen , had 44 inhabitants.

At the beginning of the 1940s there were plans to relocate the site due to an expansion of the Kurmark SS military training area , but this did not come about because of the end of the Second World War . During the GDR district reform of July 25, 1952, Teerofen was assigned to the Guben district in the Cottbus district . After the reunification , the community of Schönhöhe with the district of Teerofen was initially in the district of Guben , which was merged with three other districts during the district reform on December 6, 1993 to form today's district of Spree-Neisse . At the same time, the Schönhöhe community was dissolved and Teerofen became a residential area for the Tauer community .
