Schönhöhe , in Lower Sorbian Šejnejda , is a district of the municipality of Tauer in the Spree-Neisse district in Brandenburg .

Schönhöhe lies, completely surrounded by forest, in the Lower Lusatia in the nature reserve Pinnower Läuche and Tauer Eichen and belongs to the official settlement area of the Sorbs / Wends . Surrounding localities are the districts of Reicherskreuz in the north, Pinnow in the northeast and Bärenklau in the east, Tauer in the south, which belong to the municipality of Schenkendöbern , the district of Preilack in the southwest , which belongs to Turnow-Preilack, and Staakow in the northwest, which in turn belongs to Schenkendöbern .
From Schönhöhe, some forest roads lead to the surrounding federal roads 168 and 320 as well as to state road 50, which runs south of the village.
The village is on the Großsee . The tar stove is part of Schönhöhe .
history
In 1742 Schönhöhe was an arable farm . In 1750 the place was approved as a street village as part of the settlement policy of Friedrich II . The place was measured and built in 1752, and Schönhöhe was first mentioned in a document on September 13, 1752.
In the 17th and 18th centuries, Schönhöhe was primarily known for its tar and pitch extraction . 1665 the first Teerofen was mentioned, the second in 1718. In 1852, the tar production in Schönhöhe been discontinued, the former distillery today forms the living space Teerofen .
In the 19th century, many residents of the village emigrated to Australia and North America . In the spring of 1881 Schönhöhe burned down and donations were collected for the reconstruction. In 1926 another fire broke out in Schönhöhe, in which three stables and five barns burned down. In the 1940s, Schönhöhe was to be forcibly relocated and demolished due to the establishment of the Kurmark SS military training area, but this did not happen because of the end of the war in 1945. It was not until 1952 that Schönhöhe was connected to the power grid by the Brandenburg Electricity Company .
After the Congress of Vienna , Schönhöhe came to the Kingdom of Prussia as part of Niederlausitz . On April 1, 1935, tar furnace was incorporated. On July 25, 1952, the community was added to the newly formed Guben district in the Cottbus district. After the reunification , Schönhöhe was in the Guben district in Brandenburg and from July 16, 1992 belonged to the Peitz office . After the district reform in Brandenburg on December 6, 1993 , Schönhöhe was incorporated into Tauer and finally became part of the newly formed Spree-Neisse district .

For his statistics on the Sorbian population in Lusatia, Arnošt Muka determined a population of 180 inhabitants in the 1880s, of which 178 were Sorbs (99%) and only two were Germans.
