The Moby Ale is a ferry of the Italian shipping company Moby Lines that was put into service in 1969 under the name Mikkel Mols . It has been used on the route from Piombino to Portoferraio since 1996 .

history

Mikkel Mols

The Mikkel Mols was laid down on July 2nd, 1968 under hull number 179 in Aalborg Værft in Aalborg and was launched on October 25th, 1968. After delivery to the Molslinjen on March 30, 1969, the ship began ferry operations between Sjællands Odde and Ebeltoft on April 1 .

After six years of service which was Mikkel Mols in Aarhus launched . After a two-year layover, in August 1977 the ship was sold to Det Forenede Dampskibs-Selskab , who from September chartered the ship to Maritime Charter-Touristik GmbH for use between Emden and Delfzijl . In November of the same year, however , the Mikkel Mols had to cease operations due to technical defects and was again in Aarhus.

Teistin

From May to August 1979 the ship was under the unofficial name Viking 2 for the Viking Line between Kapellskär and Mariehamn . In March 1980, the Mikkel Mols became the property of the Färöarnas Landskapsstyrelse and was put into service in April of the same year under the name Teistin on the route from Tórshavn to Suðuroy and Klaksvík .

In the following years the Teistin was chartered out to various shipping companies several times. From 1982 to 1983 she was in use in Trinidad and Tobago and in 1984 and 1985 for the Viking Line on its old route between Kapellskär and Mariehamn. Overall, the ship stayed in service for the Faroe Islands Landskapsstyrelse for 16 years.

Moby Ale

In November 1996, the Teistin went to the Italian shipping company Moby Lines, which has been using it on the route from Piombino to Portoferraio since March 30, 1997. The Moby Ale has been the oldest ship in the Moby Lines fleet since the Moby Baby was decommissioned in September 2015.
