Tekeli ( Kazakh Текелі ) is a city in southeastern Kazakhstan .
Geographical location
The city is about 285 km from the former capital Almaty further south and is surrounded by many mountains. It is located at the end of a junction from the Turksib on the Qaratal River not far from the Djungarian Alatau in the Almaty area and is around 100 km from the Chinese border.
history
The name of the city of Tekeli comes from the Kazakh word "TEKE" and means "mountain goat". That is why the city's coat of arms features a mountain goat. The city was founded in 1937 when Soviet geologists discovered a large polymetallic deposit. Tekeli has had city rights since 1952. It is a city that reports directly to the regional government.

Lead is extracted in Tekeli .
A branch of the Turkestan-Siberian Railway ends in Tekeli and leaves the main line in Köksu .
