The Telemark World Cup 2017/18 was a series of telemarking competitions hosted by the FIS World Federation . It began on December 1, 2017 in Hintertux and ended on March 25, 2018 in Mürren . The World Cup consisted of eight stations, initially two in Europe , then two in North America and finally four more in Europe.

Defending the overall World Cup were in the men of the German Tobias Müller the and in the women's Swiss Amélie Reymond Wenger . However, neither competed in the World Cup in the 2017/18 season and thus could not defend their titles.

Overview

Season course

The overall men's World Cup was won for the first time by the Swiss Nicolas Michel, ahead of the Norwegian Trym Nygaard Løken and the French Philippe Lau . In addition to his triumph in the overall standings, Michel also won the individual ratings of the Classic and Sprint disciplines, although he had to share the victory in the Classic with his compatriot Stefan Matter . For both of them it was the first win in a discipline classification. The title in the parallel sprint went to Løken.

In the women's category, the dominator of previous years, the Swiss Amélie Wenger-Reymond , had to forego a start in the 2017/18 World Cup season due to a pregnancy . For the first time, the German Johanna Holzmann won the overall World Cup ahead of the French Argeline Tan-Bouquet and the Swiss Beatrice Zimmermann . In addition, Holzmann also won the discipline scores in sprint and parallel sprint. The Classic World Cup went to Tan-Bouquet. As with the men, it was also the first time that these two won a crystal ball.

In the course of the season, six different men achieved a World Cup victory. Overall World Cup winner Michel and third-placed Lau were able to record the most wins in the 21 competitions, each with five. This was followed by Løken (four), the Slovenian Jure Aleš (three) and the Swiss Bastien Dayer and Stefan Matter (two each). For Aleš it was the first World Cup victories of his career. After the dominance of Wenger-Reymonds in the previous year, the women also had six different World Cup winners with victories in all competitions. Among them were Tan-Bouquet, Jasmin Taylor (four wins each), Simone Oehrli and Martina Wyss (one each) four premier winners. Holzmann (eight) and Zimmermann (three) had only won one World Cup before this season. In the only mixed competition of the season at the season finale in Mürren , the team from France won ahead of Slovenia and Norway.

Switzerland won the national ranking for men and women as well as in the combined overall ranking of both genders.

Competition calendar

Compared to the 2016/17 season , the events in La Thuile , Méribel , Hurdal and Thyon were no longer part of the calendar this year. In 2017/18 they made stops in Pralognan-la-Vanoise , Mürren as well as Woodstock and Warren for the first time since the 2013/14 season in the United States .
