Teodor Majkowicz , also Theodore Majkowicz (born January 6, 1932 in Rzepedz , Komańcza parish , Poland ; † May 9, 1998 in Krakow ), was Ukrainian Greek Catholic Bishop of Wroclaw-Danzig .

Life

Teodor Majkowicz was the son of a family of agricultural workers who were relocated to Bartoszyce in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship in 1947 . He attended in Bartoszyce high school and earned 1951 at Seminary of the Pallottine in Wadowice , the High School . On June 24, 1956, Auxiliary Bishop Marian Jankowski ( Diocese of Siedlce ) consecrated him as a Roman Catholic priest. After that he was vicar of a parish in Bartoszyce and later, under pressure from the state authorities, had to work in Reszel , a small town in the north of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship. From 1956 to 1959 he was the headmaster and hospital chaplain . This was followed by a vicar position in Elbląg , in 1962 he took over a parish of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. In 1967 Majkowicz moved to Przemyśl for health reasons and was assistant to Wasyl Hrynyk, the vicar general of the Przemyśl, Sambor and Sanok eparchy . During this time he was first assistant pastor and since 1985 pastor of the Greek Catholic parish of St. John the Baptist. In 1975 he obtained his licentiate in theology from the Catholic University of Lublin and was rector of the Greek Catholic seminary in Przemyśl from 1982 to 1991. In 1989 he was accepted into the cathedral chapter of the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Przemyśl.

In 1991 he was appointed Vicar General and on May 31, 1996, after the establishment of the Wroclaw-Danzig Eparchy, he was appointed the first Greek Catholic Bishop of Wroclaw-Danzig. On July 12, 1996, the secretary of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches, Archbishop Miroslav Stefan Marusyn, and the co-consecrators Archbishop Jan Martyniak and Bishop Julian Gbur SVD consecrated him as bishop. His heart disease, which had tormented him for a long time, did not allow him a long term in office. He died on May 9, 1998 in Krakow. He was buried in his native town of Rzepedz.
