Tepic is the capital of the state of Nayarit in Mexico and the municipality of Tepic . The city, which had 274,100 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2004) and was founded in 1531 , is located on volcanic territory.
It is a Catholic bishopric and has a museum , university and theater . The products produced in the surrounding area, such as sugar cane , cotton and tobacco, are mostly processed in Tepic (e.g. linen , cigars ).
Tepic has a small airfield that is mainly used by general aviation, charter, and some commercial flights.
Local attractions include a cathedral and Santa Cruz Church .
history
In the spring of 1540, the Mixtón War broke out in Tepic and, as a rebellion against the Spanish colonial power, spread to other regions of Mexico.
