Anouk (singer)
Anouk Teeuwe (* 8. April 1975 in The Hague ) is a Dutch rock - singer and songwriter . She publishes her music under her first name Anouk .
Life
The daughter of a blues singer discovered her musical inclination as a child. As a teenager she performed at Café De Pater in The Hague, among others . In 1993 she became a background singer in the soul band Shot Gun Wedding until she began studying at the Rotterdam Conservatory in 1994 . She dropped out of this course after two years without a degree. She founded her first own band in 1995. Anouk first received more attention when she performed with Golden Earring . Barry Hay and George Kooymans of Golden Earring wrote the song "Mood Indigo" for Anouk, which was released in 1996 by Dino Records and brought the singer first successes. A year later, the single Nobody’s Wife was released and shortly afterwards the debut album “Together Alone”. It sold a total of over a million times in the Netherlands. The single was also released in German-speaking countries and was frequently played on the radio, but did not make it into the charts; this is what the album was for. In Germany, Nobody's Wife entered the singles charts in spring 2010 after it was interpreted by Jennifer Braun in the casting show Our Star for Oslo .
The two following single releases "It's So Hard" and "Sacrifice" also turned out to be successful. Anouk received the Edison Award for best Dutch singer in 1998 . With the second album "Urban Solitude", influences from Ska , Funk and Hip-Hop were added for the first time . The 2001 album "Lost Tracks" was a compilation of previously unreleased songs and, like the previous albums , reached number 1 in the Dutch charts.
After releasing two more albums, Anouk moved to Cincinnati , Ohio , USA in 2005 , but returned to her homeland in 2006. She released other successful albums. Her repertoire ranges from ballads to rock songs . In Germany, after a long absence on television on the occasion of the Pinkpop Festival 2009, her appearance there was broadcast by the WDR - Rockpalast on August 2, 2009.
Anouk Teeuwe was married to Remon Stotijn, singer of the Dutch band Postmen , from 2004 to 2008 . She has three children with him. After the divorce, she soon married the rapper Unorthadox. She has another child with him. This relationship also failed in 2011. She has a total of six children from four men. In addition to her musical career, she was a temporary lecturer at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam , and she worked in commercials for the Dutch Postbank and ING-DiBa .
At the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 in Malmö, Anouk represented the Netherlands with the song Birds . She was the first interpreter since 2004 to reach the finals for the Netherlands. With her title, which is unusual for the Eurovision Song Contest, she took ninth place out of 26 finalists. In 2015 Anouk was the author of the Dutch contribution to the Eurovision Song Contest, which was interpreted by Trijntje Oosterhuis , but missed the final.
