Terbutryn is a chemical compound with a 1,3,5-triazine ring as the basic structure. It is used as a herbicide .

use

Terbutryn comes as an algicide in z. B. emulsion paints are used. It is feared that it will be washed out slowly but steadily, and that it will enter the soil as well as surface and groundwater .

Admission

In the EU states including Germany and Austria as well as in Switzerland no pesticides with this active substance are permitted.

toxicology

Terbutryn is rapidly absorbed after oral administration. In the first 24 hours, 73–85% is excreted, mainly faecal . During the passage, terbutryn is completely metabolized , mainly by S- demethylation , hydrolysis of the SCH 3 group, oxidative dealkylation of the amino group and oxidation of the alkyl groups to alcohols and acids that conjugate exclusively with glucuronic acids . Long-term effect through storage in adipose tissue and the brain - depending on the type of gene and additional toxins. Terbutryn is considered a neurotoxin . Symptoms range from diarrhea to breathing difficulties and CNS disorders .

Others

The EU Commission proposes adding terbutryn to the list of 33 pollutants that have to be monitored and controlled in EU surface waters. This revised list is also part of a directive amending the Water Framework Directive and the Directive on environmental quality standards.
