Thallein is a scattered settlement in the Köflach-Voitsberger basin in Styria as well as the cadastral municipality of the municipality of Voitsberg in the Voitsberg district .
It was an independent political municipality from 1850 until it was incorporated into Lobming in 1949. Since January 1st, 1968 Thallein belongs to the municipality of Voitsberg.
Place name and geography
The name Thallein is probably derived from Middle High German tal , telin or tellin for valley . Another possibility is the derivation of the Slavic dolina for a valley floor or the lower course of a river. The place itself is a mountainous high medieval clearing area with individual farms and wastelands . It is located south of Voitsberg and east of the Krems settlement , on a mountain range.
history
Some burial mounds from Roman times that have been destroyed today indicate that there was settlement at that time. The village is first mentioned in 1173 as a Delin . Further mentions come from the years 1218 as mons Telin , 1268/69 as Teleyn , 1399 as in Telein in the pharr ze Voiczperg , before 1437 as on Talein and 1548 as on Thallein . Until 1848 subjects of the manors Greißenegg , Herbersdorf , Krems , Lankowitz , Ligist , Obervoitsberg , Piber and Rehregg lived in Thallein , who gave their tithe in the form of grain and oats. From 1770 Lobmingberg belonged to the advertising district of Greißenegg Castle .
In 1850 it was constituted as a "free local community Thallein". This lasted until it was incorporated into the Lobming community in 1949.

From 1868 Thallein belonged to the Voitsberg sanitary paleon and medical care was provided from Voitsberg. A heavy hailstorm on August 1, 1910 caused great damage in the municipality.
For the year 1936 a local group of the Fatherland Front Voitsberg is documented. In January 1941, a resident of Thallein was arrested for allegedly supporting the Communist Party. In May 1945 the Russian occupation soldiers were looted and a woman was shot dead.
In 1949 Thallein was incorporated into the municipality of Lobming , which in turn became part of the municipality of Voitsberg on January 1st, 1968 .
