Lobmingberg is a scattered settlement on the Köflach-Voitsberger basin in Styria as well as the cadastral municipality of the municipality of Voitsberg in the Voitsberg district . It was an independent political municipality from 1850 to 1967.

Place name and geography

The name Lobmingberg is probably derived from a Slavic field name, such as possibly the Old Slavic lomi for windthrow or quarry or the Slavic lom for a (terrain) demolition. The part of the name "mountain" refers to the mountainous landscape of the place. The place itself is a mountainous, high medieval clearing area with individual farms and wastelands .

geology

Both the Lobmingberg and the nearby Muggauberg consist of the so-called Eckwirt gravel . It is about 13 to 16.5 million years old, sandy-gravel deposits from the Young Tertiary . Where there are layers of fine sand, such as those found in the so-called Bürgerwald, tuff deposits up to five meters thick occur. These originated from around 16 million year old volcanic ash , which comes from the Bad Gleichenberg area and was blown here by the wind. The local tuff is called glass tuff and the deposit in the Bürgerwald is said to have a content of around 630,000 m³ of tuff.

history

A burial mound from Roman times suggests a settlement at that time. The village was first mentioned in documents in 1495 as Lobmyngperg pei Voitsperg . Further mentions come from the years 1584 as Lobminger Perg and 1587 as at Lobmingberg . There were vineyards in the municipality from the 15th century until the 19th century. Until 1848 the manors of Krems and Lankowitz in Lobmingberg had tithes , the ownership rights to the vineyards lay with the rule of Obervoitsberg and the church valid from the yields of the vineyards went to the Margarethenkirche and the Carmelite monastery in Voitsberg. From 1770 Lobmingberg belonged to the advertising district of Greißenegg Castle .

In 1850 it was constituted as a "free local parish Lobmingberg". This lasted until it was incorporated into the municipality of Voitsberg on January 1st, 1968.

Carl Schmutz designated Lobmingberg in 1823 as a wine mountain region. At the same time, a larger piece of forest in the municipality, the so-called Bürgerwald, belonged to the citizens of Voitsberg. From 1868 Lobmingberg belonged to the Voitsberg sanitary area and medical care was provided from Voitsberg. Residents of Lobmingberg also took part in the establishment of the Tregist advance fund association in 1902 . A planned merger with the Lobming community in 1919 was rejected. Around 1920 until after the Second World War, the local glass tuff was removed from outcrops in the Buchbachgraben near the Huber clay pit and a farm and sold to various paint factories as a dye carrier.

On June 26, 1944, Allied aircraft dropped leaflets over the town. The local group leader of the NSDAP organized a search operation with the Landwacht in which a total of 96 leaflets were collected in the municipality. On January 8th and March 9th 1945 the Allies dropped bombs, with one building being slightly damaged.

On January 1st, 1968 Lobmingberg was incorporated into the municipality of Voitsberg .
