Lobming is a place in the Köflach-Voitsberger basin in Styria as well as the cadastral municipality of the municipality of Voitsberg in the Voitsberg district . From 1850 to January 1, 1968, it was an independent political municipality.

Place name and geography

The name Lobming is probably derived from a Slavic field name, such as possibly the Old Slavic lomi for windthrow or quarry or the Slavic lom for a (terrain) demolition. The place itself is a high medieval clearing area with individual farms and wastelands . It is located east of Voitsberg , on the left bank of the Kainach .

history

Archaeological finds from the Urnfield period suggest that there was a settlement at that time. There are also finds such as Roman stones and barrows from Roman times that are no longer preserved today. The village was first mentioned in a document in 1207 as Lobnich . Further mentions come from the years 1318 as Lobnikh proper Voitsperch , 1369 as in the Lobnig and 1425 as in the Lobming . In the Middle Ages Lobming belonged to the area of Krems Castle and in what is today the local area was the gallows place of the regional court of Voitsberg . In the years 1435 and 1445, as well as later in the 17th and 18th centuries, a brotherhood is mentioned at the Church of the Holy Place . Until 1848, subjects of the manors Greißenegg , Krems and Ligist lived in Lobming , although in 1616 a separate office of Lobming was mentioned. From 1770 Lobming belonged to the advertising district of Greißenegg Castle.

In 1850 it was constituted as a "free local community of Lobming", which in 1949 was merged with the community of Thallein to form the community of Lobming . This lasted until it was incorporated into the municipality of Voitsberg on January 1st, 1968.

In 1868 Lobming belonged to the Voitsberg Sanitary Paleon and medical care was provided from Voitsberg. When the advance fund association Tregist was founded in 1902, residents of Lobming also took part. On August 7, 1926, a war memorial was unveiled by the newly renovated Kogler Chapel. In 1930 Lobming got a bus connection to Graz and Pack .

On the night of July 25th to 26th, 1935, a wreath of oak leaves was laid near the Lobming village chapel to commemorate the July coup that had failed the previous year . In May 1936 there was a separate local group of the Fatherland Front Voitsberg . In July 1938, a resident was suspected of being the head of the alleged communist cell in the cellulose factory in Krems . In August 1941 two miners were arrested as communists and handed over to the Gestapo in Graz. In a search operation carried out by the Hitler Youth and several school children in June 1944 in the communities of Lobming and Tregist , a total of 2036 pamphlets were collected. In July 1944 there was a prisoner-of-war camp for the English on a farm. When four Allied fighter planes were bombed on January 3, 1945, several buildings were badly damaged and some people were injured. In June 1945 there was looting by Red Army soldiers.

The homecoming association Lobming was founded by former soldiers after the Second World War . On May 3, 1953, this unveiled a memorial plaque for heroes attached to the Kogler Chapel. In 1949 the municipality of Lobming was merged with that of Thallein . On September 29, 1953, a flood caused severe damage to agricultural areas as well as to the Köflacherbahn railway line . On June 26, 1964, Lobming received its own from Dr. Reiner Puschnig-designed coat of arms awarded. On January 1st, 1968 Lobming was incorporated into the municipality of Voitsberg .

In 1981 the local telephone network was expanded. The Lobming-Aichegg water cooperative was founded in 2005 .

Ernst Lasnik

coat of arms

The award of the Dr. Reiner Puschnig designed municipal coat of arms took effect on August 1, 1964. The description of the coat of arms reads: In a blue shield with a flooded, water-colored shield base in silver on a mountain of three, a tinned castle with a slim, three-pinned keep in the middle. It shows in a stylized form the castle hill washed by the Kainach , with the ruins of Krems Castle and the striking keep.

Buildings

The Heiligenblutkirche

One of the most remarkable buildings in Lobming is the Heiligenblut Church with a nearby plague column from the 16th century and the Ziegelwastl Cross in Barbarastraße, which was built around 1530 and renovated in 1976. The Holz-Her company also has a tabernacle shrine designed by Franz Weiss . From the Kogler Chapel, which also serves as a war memorial, the Voitsbergers make a pilgrimage to Maria Straßengel every September 2nd .
