The Happy Disharmonists are a mixed pop choir from Berlin . It was founded in 1985 by Carsten Gerlitz . The vocal ensemble consists of just over 20 singers.

history

From the music performance course of high school vintage 1984, the Georg-Herwegh-Oberschule in Berlin-Hermsdorf the choir was founded 1985th Under the motto “Choir - once different”, he initially presented his own arrangements in the style of The King's Singers and the Comedian Harmonists . The choir has performed on many Berlin stages with its own full-length concert programs. He regularly documented his work on sound carriers. This was followed by appearances on television with Thomas Gottschalk and participation as a background choir on recordings (e.g. Ms. Suurbier ). The choir received a record deal with Meisel music publishers and was awarded the “Bonzo” culture prize by the district. Various publishers published original arrangements (including Meisel Musikverlage, Helbling Verlag, Tonos Verlag, Peer Musikverlag, Greenlandmusic Berlin).

The choir presented various stage programs:

  • "Around the world in 80 bars" with international songs,
  • "The license to sing" with arrangements of James Bond titles,
  • "Animal" with songs on the subject of "Animal",
  • "Animally poppy",
  • "Feelin 'Groovy" with choir cover versions by Supertramp , Stevie Wonder , Earth, Wind & Fire , Toto and others. a.,
  • "Everything you always wanted to know about songs" with presentations on the history of pop music,
  • "Hard choir" with their own arrangements of German hits ,
  • "Undercover" with cover versions of u. a. ABBA , AC / DC , Spliff and Madonna ,

  • "Folk & Gospel",
  • "Very close" as the motto for small club concerts,
  • "Highland Harmonies" with Scottish, Irish and Celtic pieces,

The comedic aspect played an increasingly important role.

repertoire

The Happy Disharmonists' repertoire comprises over 200 arrangements and ranges from their own a cappella arrangements and cover versions of classics of pop music, e.g. Sometimes combined with beatboxing , jazz and folk music to choral comedy with stage production, e.g. B. Choral arrangements by Monty Python . The choir also performed classical works such as the Christmas Oratorio and Mozart's Requiem .

Appearances and awards

The Happy Disharmonists have performed on many stages in Berlin (Chamber Music Hall of the Berlin Philharmonic , Meistersaal , Concert Hall of the University of Music in Berlin, LabSaal in Berlin-Lübars , Theater des Westens , Tempodrom , Bar every reason, Tipi, Radialsystem V ) and performed on trips u. a. in Vienna , Namibia , Mölln , Dresden , Mallorca and Prague . In 1995 the choir received the “Bonzo” culture award from the Berlin-Reinickendorf district .

Choirmaster

Carsten Gerlitz , the founder and director of the Happy Disharmonists, is a musician, composer and arranger . Many of the Disharmonists' arrangements are published, e.g. B. "Choir once different, Volume 1-3" ( Meisel Musikverlage ), "Love & Choir" (Helbling Verlag), "Who turned the clock?" (Tonos Verlag), Peter and the Wolf incl. CD recording ( Sikorski Music Publishers ).
