action

Harry Madox, a man with an obscure past, is stranded in a sleepy small town in Texas and gets a job as a car salesman. But he finds the local bank he is planning a robbery much more interesting. Although Harry is in love with his colleague, the shy and vulnerable Gloria, he drives away the boredom with Dolly, the love-hungry and unscrupulous wife of his boss. This catches up on him and tries to use him to his own advantage. She demands that Madox give up Gloria and kill her husband. At the same time, Gloria is blackmailed by the greasy Frank Sutton. Harry solves the problem by beating him up badly. After Harry robbed the bank, Dolly destroys his relationship with Gloria and blackmailed Harry into living with her.

Reviews

The film service writes: “An attempt to revive the 'Black Series' and its myths, which is only partially convincing. Aesthetically lacquered in emphatically 'postmodern' images of all too great arbitrariness, the film remains implausible in dealing with the topic of sexual addiction. "

Roger Ebert gave the film 3 out of 4 stars and wrote: Only film lovers who love the old B-movies from RKO and Republic will recognize this film as an outstanding work in the old tradition.

Janet Maslin wrote in the New York Times that Hopper had a rough directing style that was an effective contrast to Ueli Steiger's colorful camera work.

Soundtrack

The film's soundtrack was composed by Jack Nitzsche and is an interplay of John Lee Hooker , Miles Davis , Taj Mahal and the guitarist Roy Rogers . Allmusic describes the soundtrack as "wonderful music for which the listener should be grateful to the bad film, especially fans of Miles Davis or John Lee Hooker" .
