The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson is an American late night show that was produced for CBS from 2005 to 2014 . It was hosted by Craig Ferguson , who was the third host of the Late Late Show . He prevailed against DL Hughley , Michael Ian Black and Damien Fahey , among others . The show was produced by World Wide Pants, David Letterman's production company .

The show was taped Monday through Friday from 3:00 p.m. PST and aired at 12:35 p.m. PST / 11:35 p.m. CST .

In the April 29, 2014 issue, Ferguson announced that he would not renew his contract and would leave the show in December 2014. He clearly distanced himself from the rumors that he was leaving the show because he was not given the slot for David Letterman , who ended his show in 2015. The last show hosted by Ferguson was broadcast on December 19, 2014. His successor is James Corden , who has hosted The Late Late Show with James Corden since 2015 .

construction

The show started with a two- to four-minute so-called "cold open" . Ferguson either gave a short monologue or interacted with selected people from the audience. In previous shows was "Cold Open" now and then replaced by musical sequences, such as for Paris - and Scotland week, the Doctor Who -Special or Halloween . But there were also serious speeches, for example about the Aurora rampage or the attack on the Boston Marathon .

After the title track and a commercial break Ferguson walked into the studio and the show began with the words: "Welcome to Los Angeles, California, welcome to The Late Late Show, I am your host, TV's Craig Ferguson" ( "Welcome to Los Angeles, California, welcome to the Late Late Show, I'm your host, Craig Ferguson from TV! ”). This address was followed by: “It's a great day for America, everybody!” (“Listen up, everyone: It's a great day for America!”). A largely improvised monologue followed, in which Ferguson spoke about current topics from show business or politics. But also a high degree of self-irony and private issues, such as the death of his parents in 2006 and 2008 or his successful withdrawal from alcohol in early 1992, were part of this segment.

After another commercial break, Ferguson was at his desk. In the segment “Tweets and E-Mails” that followed, he read and answered letters that were sent to the show by viewers via Twitter or e-mail . Then there were interviews with one or two celebrity guests. Sometimes musicians or stand-up comedians also appeared. The show ended with the segment “What did we learn on the show tonight, Craig?” ( “What did we learn from today's show, Craig?”). Before Ferguson sent his audience to bed, he drew a summary of the show.

Theme song

As Ferguson 2005 the show took even a new title song was recorded, which he wrote with (Ferguson was in his youth drummer of Glasgow punk rock - band The Dream Boys alongside Oscar award winner Peter Capaldi ). When CBS began broadcasting the show in HD on August 31, 2009 , the theme song was re-recorded. Tim Mosher & Stroker were the producers. During the Paris week in August 2011, Ferguson took over the vocals again, accompanied by a piano and a double bass , in street musician style . In the Scotland week in May 2012 this was taken over by the band The Imagineers.

Show elements

Geoff Peterson

Geoff Peterson is a robotic skeleton and has been Ferguson's sidekick since April 5, 2010 . The idea arose from repeated complaints from Ferguson that the show had neither its own band nor a sidekick and his desire to have its own robot-skeleton army, as he calls his Twitter followers. Grant Imahara from Mythbusters offered Ferguson to build such a robot for him if it could help him gain 100,000 Twitter followers. This goal was achieved in a very short time.

Geoff Peterson was spoken and operated by Josh Robert Thompson, a voice actor and impersonator. Initially, Peterson was voiced by Ferguson himself. Recordings were made, which could then be played back at appropriate moments. But Ferguson soon found the scratchy robot voice too annoying and asked Thompson, who had been dubbing for the show since 2007 and imitating people like Arnold Schwarzenegger , to take on this task. In April 2011, Thompson got the opportunity to dub Geoff Peterson live in a sketch in Las Vegas . From then on, this was occasionally implemented in the show. From June 2011 on, Thompson's Geoff Peterson was dubbed on every show.

Secretariat

Secretariat is a Panto -Pferd (represented by two people thrown over red-brown horse costume), which originated in the Disney film Secretariat has made fun of the Ferguson. From October 2010, Secretariat appeared irregularly on the show, mostly only when Ferguson rang the doorbell hidden under his desk. Secretariat then danced through the studio and disappeared back behind the scenes. When the show moved to a larger studio in August 2012, it got its own stall on the edge of the stage.

Running gags

Ferguson and Geoff Peterson often imitated prominent people such as Bill Clinton , Sean Connery , Morgan Freeman or Liam Neeson . Talk show legend Larry King took over the dubbing of Geoff Peterson among other well-known personalities for an episode in 2011, because voice actor Thompson was out for two weeks. From time to time, modified maps were included in the monologues, or photos of Paul McCartney or Cher were asked. But then other people such as Angela Lansbury or Marilyn Manson were shown . When Ferguson received letters from other parts of the world, he read them with the accent that is typical of the country.
