The Losers is an American action film directed by Sylvain White from 2010. It is an adaptation of the vertigo comic strip of the same name , an imprint of DC Comics . In Germany, the film was released directly on DVD on January 21, 2011.
action
The team of an elite Special Forces unit is sent into the jungles of Bolivia to eliminate the influential drug lord Fadhil. During the action, they free children who they take to safety on a bus. The helicopter, with which the soldiers were to be flown out after the mission, picks up the children and is suddenly shot down in front of their eyes on the orders of their commander Max. One thing is certain: the attack was aimed at them. Clay, Jensen, Roque, Pooch and Cougar briefly struggle to maintain composure, then they throw their dog tags into the burning wreck. They go to the next town and plan a campaign of revenge against Max. Nevertheless, someone seems to know that they survived. During a visit to the bar, Colonel Clay is addressed by his first name by a well-trained Latina beauty. Just like Clay, she reportedly has an interest in Max's death. She offers to help the whole team with the illegal entry into the USA; in addition, she leads the soldiers to Max. Although they distrust her, they agree to the deal.
After arriving in the USA, Aisha explains her intention in more detail: Max is planning to sell next-generation weapons, so-called sonic dematerializers, which would cause many people to lose their lives. They watch Max's motorcade on Miami's streets and kidnap the armored vehicle they suspect Max is in. Unfortunately, that was a miscalculation. Instead of the person wanted, the car only carried an elaborately encrypted hard drive. The failure triggers frustration and aggression among team members. Some of them advocate ending the campaign of revenge. The question of whether Aisha is playing the wrong game cannot be conclusively clarified.
In the hopes of finding out Max's current whereabouts, they crack the code that protects the hard drive from unauthorized access. It essentially contains transfer data for moving black money. But you can also see the fact that Aisha is Fadhil's daughter from the files. Now it becomes clear that Aisha wants to avenge her father's death. After this exposure, Aisha flees the window.
In the middle of the night, the five deserters go to the port of Los Angeles , where they finally want to hunt down Max. But unfortunately this is a trap. The hard drive was a lure. Plus, Roque had switched sides after the Miami debacle. All but Roque are captured by Max's people. And while the four of them are facing their execution at dawn, Aisha suddenly appears with a bazooka on one of the shipping containers. Through her diversion, her one-time companions manage to free themselves. But even now they are by no means thinking of fleeing. In the service of peace and disarmament, they try to stop Max's arms deal. The handover in the port is in full swing. Max wants to test the newly acquired high-tech weapon on site. The demolition of the port is said to give rise to new global conflicts in which he can then intervene as a CIA employee. Clay can snatch the trigger from him and thus prevent destruction on an unimagined scale.
background
The comic book adaptation was filmed mainly in Puerto Rico and Miami . Max and his right hand Wade are in the Puerto Rico scene (approx. 45th minute) on the platform of the Arecibo observatory. The forests around the giant telescope were also used for filming. They depict the Bolivian rainforest in the opening scenes. The scene in which Jensen gains access to the main server was filmed on the artificial island of Brickell Key off Miami.
For the production turned Dark Castle in US dollars 25 million. This budget is offset by global revenue of $ 29 million from ticket sales.
Director Sylvain White invited the two cartoonists Andy Diggle and Jock to work on the film production. It is not known whether they accepted the invitation. The actions of the two comic episodes "Ante Up" and "Double Down" from their comic The Losers were a casual template for the script.
