The Drachengasse theater is a small theater in Vienna's 1st district, Innere Stadt, on the corner of Fleischmarkt and Drachengasse .

The theater was founded in 1981 by Emmy Werner (* 1938) taking over the theater fund from the Theater der Courage , which closed in 1982 . When she was appointed director of the Vienna Volkstheater in 1988 , a team of three (Johanna Franz, Verena Kanaan, Eva Langheiter) took over the management of the theater. After Verena Kanaan's departure, Eva Langheiter and Johanna Franz ran the house. In October 2014 Eva Langheiter handed over her agenda to Katrin Schurich. Beate Platzgummer and Katrin Schurich have been sharing the management of the theater since July 2016. The Drachengasse 2 Theater Ges.mbH operates two venues at this location: the Drachengasse theater (80–100 seats) and the Bar & Co (50 seats).

Theater Drachengasse shows contemporary drama in four to five in-house productions per year, mainly first and world premieres. Bar & Co offers space for theater productions from the independent scene, which shows its projects as guest performances or co-productions with Drachengasse . The program is complemented by performances from the fields of music, improv , comedy and late night specials. The main focus is on socio-politically relevant topics, and women are of particular interest - whether in terms of content, choice of plays or directing. A young talent competition has been held annually since 2008.

The Drachengasse receives subsidies from the Cultural Department of the City of Vienna (4-year concept promotion) and the BMUKK (annual production).
