Preziosa theater company 1883
The theater company Preziosa 1883 eV from Gelsenkirchen-Ückendorf was founded on August 13, 1883 by Karl Höfert senior and is Gelsenkirchen's oldest theater association and a member of the BDAT .
history
The purpose of the association was to promote decency and happiness.
- Ladies and gentlemen who enjoy the theater are asked to set up a theater association
- meet on August 13 at 7 p.m. in the Zitzen bar on Bochumer Strasse.
So it was to be read in the Gelsenkirchen newspaper in August 1883. If you follow history, the end of the 19th century was the hour of birth of all kinds of associations. Companies, associations, sports, chanting and theater associations sprang up everywhere. However, the authorities were hostile to the free theater associations until 1890. The socialist laws prohibited from 1878 performances of the slowly newly established labor movements. It was not until 1890 that the laws were repealed. All the more astonishing was the large number of visitors for those times. More than 60 gentlemen, mostly miners who enjoyed singing, reported and a little later the founding of the “Gesellschaft deutsche Bühne Gelsenkirchen Ückendorf” was decided and Karl Höfert was elected chairman. The “Börste” bar (today “Haus Stachowitz”) on Bochumerstraße at the corner of Südstraße (today Virchowstraße) was chosen as the club's first club bar.
At that time, Ückendorf was still independent, because it broke away from Wattenscheid on September 1, 1876 and was an independent office in the Gelsenkirchen district until 1903 . During this time it was the only theater association in the infrastructural developing Ückendorf.
In 1906 they played the Singspiel “Preziosa” by Carl Maria von Weber for the first time , which then became the godfather for the club's name from 1906 onwards. On March 9, 1929, the theater company Preziosa 1883 was registered under VR189 at the Gelsenkirchen District Court .
In 1948 Wilhelm Herrmann, who later also became managing director of the Association for Volksbühnen- und Laienspiel Nordrhein-Westfalen eV, took over the chairmanship of the association. For his tireless commitment to culture in Gelsenkirchen and for the Preziosa theater company, he received the Cross of Merit on ribbon from the then Lord Mayor Werner Kuhlmann on September 10, 1985 .
The association has been a non-profit organization since 2007 and has worked without subsidies since it was founded.
Venue
The Preziosa theater company does not have its own venue, but is a subtenant in the comprehensive school Gelsenkirchen Ückendorf on Bochumer Straße. Other performances will also take place at the Max Planck Gymnasium in Gelsenkirchen-Buer . However, the association is trying hard to find a suitable solution for permanent accommodation due to increasing costs.
Game operation
The club's operations continued uninterrupted, apart from two interruptions 1915–1916 and 1943–1945. In the years 1937–1943, the Preziosa theater company rose to become one of the leading associations in the field of amateur theater. In 1937 this was given expression with the award of the "Art Certificate", which enabled artists to sell their works and performances without tax. Immediately after the war there was regular club life again and in 1947 the club resumed its gaming operations. From 1975 on they played in exchange with the “Liebhabertheater-Gesellschaft Solothurn”, Switzerland. The repertoire included in the past musical plays , operettas and popular plays . From 1971 on, fairy tales were also included in regular play. Since 1993, the club has mainly specialized in the genre of tabloid comedy.
Chairperson
There is no need to explain that fluctuations within a club are inevitable over such an immensely long period of time . All the more remarkable is the fact that there have only been 6 chairmen since 1883:
- Karl Höfert Sr. 1883-1913
- Karl Höfert jun. 1913-1948
- Willy Herrmann 1948–1989
- Dr. Volkher Zähres 1989–1992
- Jörg Morsbach 1992-
- Dirk Maischak since
ensemble
The ensemble consists of 45 members, all of whom are volunteers . The oldest member is 94 years old and is still actively looking after the performers during the performances. In addition, up to 20 children aged 4–15 take part in the fairy tale performances. From stage construction , to make- up and costume making , everything is done in-house.
Current
In 2008 the association celebrates its 125th anniversary. On this occasion, the association published a chronicle.
