Theodor Wintges

Theodor Wintges (born November 24, 1947 in Klotzsche ; † August 15, 2011 in Munich ) was a German cartographer .

Career

Wintges studied at the then University of Munich initially Cartography (1970-1973) and subsequently to 1978 Geography with a minor in Geology and Land Planning . After his doctorate as Dr. rer. nat. in geography at the University of Salzburg with Helmut Heuberger , he worked as a research assistant at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and the Technical University of Munich . From 1985 to 1987 he was a ltd. Employee at the Gesellschaft für Angewandte Fernerkundung mbH (GAF) in Munich. From March 1987, Wintges taught the subjects of map design and editing, original cartographic production, planning and cartography, map science and geography at the Munich University of Applied Sciences .

His teaching activities focused on the one hand on generalization and on the other hand on the recording and visualization of the high alpine relief - for example in the region of the Berliner Hütte , the Madlenerhaus and the Wiesbadener Hütte . In addition, Wintges led excursions to Scandinavia and the Italian volcanoes Vesuvius , Etna and Stromboli .

Memberships

Between 1992 and 1996 he initially headed the Munich local association of the German Society for Cartography (DGfK). From 1995 until the German Cartographers' Day in Berchtesgaden in 2001 he was President of the DGfK.
