Thomas, Thomas is a multi-award-winning mockumentary by Corinna Liedtke , which was created as part of the episode film Zeche is nich - Seven Views of the Ruhr Area 2010 .
action
Wolfgang Weber, a somewhat unworldly man in his mid-thirties, son and grandson of miners, is a bookworm and city archivist in Castrop-Rauxel . He knows how to combine his two passions, the biography of the Irish mining pioneer William Thomas Mulvany and Indian culture, in an unusual way: Wolfgang Weber tries through intensive research to prove that a doctor who is known to him and who works in Castrop-Rauxel, founder and operator of a Ayurveda and medical center called Thomas Vallomtharayil the reborn Mulvany. To do this, he even travels to the Sri Kamadchi Ampal temple in Hamm-Uentrop to get spiritual support. The film leaves open whether the story is documentary or fiction.
Reviews
“The film moves between past and present, between fiction and reality. The industrial revolution and post-industrial health consciousness are connected in an absurd way. In an entertaining way, the media's piety of the passive viewer is put to the test and subliminal criticism of past and current social conditions is made. "
“Corinna Liedtke managed to leave the jury both delighted and confused at the same time. Even the selection committee was probably not entirely sure how this short film could be classified and is offering it in the festival catalog under 'Other'.
The jury has decided to see the fake documentary as a feature film. This was all the easier for her as the actor of Wolfgang Weber, city archivist in Castrop-Rauxel, acts so convincingly and invitingly for identification that one would be willing to take even more improbable hypotheses from him. "
"A film of the past and present reality of the Ruhr area into an unbelievable story, credibly and playfully developed, carried by the friendly and convincing main actors."
“And when in Thomas, Thomas a hard-working city archivist from Castrop-Rauxel suddenly discovers that the head of the Ayurveda Center Thomas Vallomtharayil is the reincarnation of the industrial pioneer Thomas Mulvany, then one would simply want to believe this idea. And so it's really just a question of your own attitude, what you ultimately want to see as real. "
