Zeche ist nich - Seven Views of the Ruhr Area 2010 is a German episode film from 2010. The seven short films by seven (partly) young filmmakers focus on the Ruhr area and its people. Both game episodes and documentary contributions are represented, as well as those that cannot be clearly assigned to any genre .

action

In seven episodes, different living environments in the Ruhr area today are illuminated on film. The self-contained films do not follow one another, but are nested within one another. There are no content-related points of contact between the episodes. Each episode has its own film title.

On the road

The Austrian filmmaker Stephan Bergmann travels the Ruhr area from east to west by hitchhiking on the A40 and lets the people he meets by chance have their say. These include hardcore fans of Schalke 04 as well as fans of the tuner scene and normal commuters. A longer scene from the notorious north curve in the Veltins Arena has also been cut .

The new painter

In this comedy -like science fiction episode, the talking, bitchy and beer-drinking bar robot IRB # 2600 is laid off by his boss, the owner of a Borussia Dortmund sports bar, and is looking for new work. He experiences quite a few adventures, including arguing with drinkers at a kiosk , as a worker in a car parts factory and as a triangle player in an orchestra. The lonely worker Eddi, whom the robot reminds of his deceased dog, "adopts" him, pats him and puts a collar on him.

Thomas, Thomas

Wolfgang Weber, a somewhat unworldly man in his mid-thirties, son and grandson of miners , is a bookworm and city archivist in Castrop-Rauxel . He knows how to combine his two passions, the biography of the Irish mining pioneer William Thomas Mulvany and Indian culture, in an unusual way: through intensive research he tries to prove that a doctor who he knows and who works in Castrop-Rauxel is the reborn Mulvany. To do this, he even travels to the Sri Kamadchi Ampal Temple in Hamm- Uentrop to get spiritual support. The film leaves open whether the story is documentary or fiction .

Bochum boys

The eccentric drum beater Manfred has had a hard time with his conservative taste in music in his uniformed traditional orchestra Bochumer Jungs - played by the fanfare band Blau-Weiß Bochum - Hamme and the Bochumer Landsknecht fanfare band - his tendencies towards musical rebellion are caused by the rule-loyal drum major and his colleagues who are bullied and expulsion punished. Sadly, Manfred and his instrument take the subway and tram through Bochum and feel followed by a cleaning man. At a subway station, where he happens to meet his colleagues again, Manfred suddenly succeeds in turning things around: he makes the band, drum major and the cleaning man swing . The episode ends in a kind of exuberant, surreal musical scene. In contrast to the other episodes, in which there is a lot of talk, the characters in this episode remain silent except for the instructions of the drum major.

Ali his garden

The filmmaker visits a multicultural allotment garden somewhere in the Ruhr area . German, Turkish , Korean and Eastern European parcel owners peacefully cultivate their hobbies side by side, even if not always without conflict. The focus is on discussions, philosophizing about the "right" horticulture and celebrations.

Sinan G.

The focus of the documentary is on the Essen rapper and former professional criminal Sinan-G . The musician of Iranian origin tells in detail about his life, about crimes, gunshot wounds, imprisonment and cleansing through sport and music. His brother and manager Roozbeh Farhangmore is also portrayed .

The Andes of the Ruhr area

The classically-scale documentary short film accompanies the company founder Beate splendor through their everyday work as Lama - therapist at work with their animals, the elderly and disabled people and their everyday work as an entrepreneur. In addition to llama therapy, this also includes the organization of leisure events and seminars on coping with stress such as anti- burnout training. Beate Pracht describes the renatured spoil heaps on the rural northern edge of Gelsenkirchen as the “Andes of the Ruhr area” .

background

The film was produced by Melanie Andernach and Knut Losen ( Made in Germany Filmproduktion ) in cooperation with ZDF Das kleine Fernsehspiel , Kunsthochschule für Medien Cologne and the International Film School Cologne (ifs). The film was funded by the North Rhine-Westphalia Film Foundation .
