Thomas Collins (Cardinal)
Thomas Christopher Cardinal Collins (born January 16, 1947 in Guelph , Canada ) is Archbishop of Toronto .
Life
Thomas Collins received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Hamilton on May 5, 1973 through Auxiliary Bishop Paul Francis Reding . He then studied Catholic theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome and obtained a doctorate in theology . 1978 Collins was a lecturer at the Seminary of London , Ontario and 1995 rain this seminar.
On 25 March 1997 appointed him Pope John Paul II. To Coadjutor Bishop of Saint Paul in Alberta . He received his episcopal ordination on May 14th of the same year by the Bishop of Hamilton, Anthony Frederick Tonnos . Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Saint Paul in Alberta, Raymond Roy , and the Bishop of London , John Michael Sherlock . As a motto he chose Deum Adora ( Rev 22,9 EU ).
On June 30, 1997, Thomas Collins was finally elected Bishop of Saint Paul, Alberta. Pope John Paul II named Collins Coadjutor Archbishop of Edmonton on February 18, 1999 . Thomas Collins succeeded Joseph Neil MacNeil as Archbishop of Edmonton on June 7 of the same year. He took office on September 13, 1999. On March 16, 2001, Pope John Paul II also appointed him Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Saint Paul in Alberta. Collins resigned from this position on September 8 of the same year.
On December 16, 2006, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . to the Archbishop of Toronto . Collins took up office on January 30, 2007.
In the solemn consistory of February 18, 2012, Benedict XVI took him. as a cardinal priest with the titular church of San Patrizio in the college of cardinals .

He is also Grand Prior of the Order of Toronto Province of the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem .
