Thomas James Olmsted
Thomas James Olmsted (born January 21, 1947 in Marysville , Kansas ) is an American clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Phoenix .
Life
Thomas James Olmsted was ordained a priest on July 2, 1973 .
Pope John Paul II appointed him coadjutor bishop in Wichita on February 16, 1999 . The Bishop of Wichita, Eugene John Gerber , the same year donated him on April 20, the episcopal ordination ; Co- consecrators were James Patrick Keleher , Archbishop of Kansas City in Kansas , and Fabian Wendelin Bruskewitz , Bishop of Lincoln . He chose Jesus Caritas as his motto .
With the resignation of Eugene John Gerber on October 4, 2001, he succeeded him as Bishop of Wichita. He was named Bishop of Phoenix on November 25, 2003 and inducted into office on December 20 of the same year. From January 3, 2008 to February 5, 2009 he administered the diocese of Gallup during the Sedis vacancy as Apostolic Administrator .
On August 1, 2018, Pope Francis appointed him Apostolic Administrator sede plena of the Phoenix Eparchy , suspending the jurisdiction of Diocesan Bishop John Stephen Pazak with immediate effect.
Olmsted is Grand Officer of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem . Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on February 2, 2011 as the first Vice President of the "Vox Clara" committee .
