Thomas Richter (born February 27, 1962 in Castrop-Rauxel ) is a former German football player . The goalkeeper works after the end of his career as a manager and coach.

Athletic career

Richter comes from Castrop-Rauxel and spent his youth at VfR Rauxel. He later moved to Westfalia Herne , before he joined the Holstein Kiel team in the northern season of the 2nd Bundesliga in 1980 . There he displaced last year's goalkeeper Manfred Ludwig between the posts in a fight with Andreas Köpke of the same age and played 24 of the 42 league games. At the end of the season, the team missed relegation after merging the two second division seasons and was relegated to the Oberliga Nord . He then left the club and joined Rot-Weiß Oberhausen in the league. In his first year he played 24 league games on the field, but in his second year he was at most a supplementary player with a season appearance. After the club's promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga in 1983 , they parted ways and Richter was hired again at Westfalia Herne, where he continued to play in the top division.

1985 Richter moved to the second division relegated SSV Ulm 1846 in the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg . On the side of Marcus Sorg , Dieter Kohnle , Uwe Spies and former international Bernd Martin he managed with that of Werner Nickel trained team direct resurgence in the second division. In the following two seasons he played 71 second division games for the "sparrows" before they were relegated again. He then moved on to Viktoria Aschaffenburg within the league , but behind Claus Reitmaier he only had a place on the bench for long periods of the 1988/89 season. In 1990 he returned to Württemberg and played in the major league for VfL Kirchheim / Teck . After relegation to the Württemberg Association League , he moved to Wuppertaler SV , where he mainly served as an experienced substitute. As a back-up for Jörg Albracht , he played six second division games until the club was relegated in 1994. Due to the subsequent austerity course Albracht left the club, Richter moved up and completed another 30 games in the 1994/95 regional league season. In 1996 he finally moved to VfB Lübeck , but returned to Wuppertal a year later and let his career end.

After the end of his career, Richter initially worked as an assistant coach and, after advancing to the Regionalliga Nord in 2003, as a manager at Wuppertaler SV. In 2007 he moved to Kickers Emden , where he was Stefan Emmerling's manager and assistant trainer . In April 2009, after his early resignation, he took over as head coach until the end of the season. In the summer of 2010, Richter returned to Wuppertaler SV as assistant coach to Michael Dämgen , but ended his engagement after one season when Demgen migrated to TuS Koblenz . In February 2014, he initially took over the position of head coach at Wuppertaler SV until the end of the season, when he replaced Peter Radojewski , then also regularly in the top division 2014/15 season . From July 2016 to June 2017, Richter was sports director at VfB 03 Hilden . In July 2018 he took over the coaching position at FSV Vohwinkel , which he held until April 2019. In January 2020 he returned to Wuppertaler SV. He took over the function of sports director, and since April 2020 he has also been a member of the board of the WSV.
