Thury-Harcourt is a former French commune in the department of Calvados in the region of Normandy . It last had 2022 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2013) and was merged with four neighboring municipalities on January 1, 2016 to form the municipality of Le Hom , whose administrative seat has been Thury-Harcourt since then.

geography

Thury-Harcourt is located about 23 kilometers south-southwest of Caen in the hill country of the Norman Switzerland on the river Orne . Until 2016, the neighboring communities of Thury-Harcourt were Curcy-sur-Orne in the north and north-west, Croisilles in the east and north-east, Esson in the south and south-east and Saint-Martin-de-Sallen in the west and south-west.

The Roche d'Oëtre is located near Thury-Harcourt . The former route nationale 162 (today's D562) leads through the former municipal area .

history

Harcourt has been a county since 1338 . In addition to the county, the Duchy of Harcourt existed from 1709, which was a merger of the Marquisate La Mothe and Thury .

During the Battle of Caen in the summer of 1944, almost three quarters of the villages in the municipality were destroyed.

On January 1, 2016, the municipalities of Thury-Harcourt, Caumont-sur-Orne , Curcy-sur-Orne , Hamars and Saint-Martin-de-Sallen merged to form the new municipality of Le Hom .
