Tiefenthal ( Bavarian : Tiafadol or Diafadol ) is a village and district of the Upper Palatinate town of Wörth on the Danube in the Regensburg district in Bavaria .

Geographical location

The district of Tiefenthal is two kilometers east of Wörth on a foothill of the Falkensteiner Vorwald on the northern edge of the Gäuboden . Immediately to the south is the route of the federal motorway BAB 3 Regensburg - Passau with the motorway parking lots Wellerbach and Wiesentthal (formerly Tiefenthal ). To the south-east of the village is the old Danube arm of the Gmünder Au nature reserve , two kilometers south of the Danube .

history

Catholic mountain church St. Ulrich and Wolfgang, Tiefenthal

The place is first mentioned in a document from 1179. A Gotepolt de Tiufendal appears as a witness. In a document from 1401, a castle stable in Tewffental with a tower is mentioned. This castle stable is likely to be closely related to the mountain church St. Ulrich and Wolfgang , as there was a noble seat here. The exact location for this can no longer be determined. A final note comes from a deed of purchase from 1624.

From 1876 until it was incorporated into the city of Wörth, Tiefenthal was assigned to the Hofdorf registry office district; to this day it is looked after by two different Catholic parishes. These are the parish of Wörth and the parish of Pondorf. This affects the cemetery assignment. The cemetery is in Hofdorf for one half of the town and in Wörth an der Donau for the other half.

The affiliation of Tiefenthal was also divided into two school districts. The pupils in the eastern part of the village attended the school in Hofdorf , the pupils in the western part the one in Wörth. The demolition took place in 1966. Since then, all students have been going to school in Wörth.

The place used to be much closer to the Danube . The Danube breakthrough near Gmünd in 1876 created a new bed for the river; the Gmünder Au was created.

The last mayor of Tiefenthal was Karl Dietl. In 1971 he was awarded the honorary title of former mayor by the city of Wörth an der Donau .

Population development

In 1908 the population of Tiefenthal was 217 inhabitants, in 1971 there were 191 and in 2000 156 inhabitants. The population figures refer to the districts of Tiefenthal and Wichenbach.

Viticulture

Viticulture in Tiefenthal

The place has a long winemaking tradition; In the 14th century, viticulture was an important branch of business. After many years no more wine had been cultivated, today wine is being grown successfully again in Tiefenthal. Baierwein (Regensburger Landwein) thrives on a southern slope . In 2015, a cuvée of the Johanniter and Regent grape varieties succeeded for the first time in producing a Baierwein that could be fermented into quality sparkling wine. The first Baierwein sparkling wine was produced using the traditional method of bottle fermentation. The village is located in the second smallest wine-growing area in Germany and the smallest wine-growing area in Bavaria on the wine route, which is the shortest wine route in Germany with a length of 20 kilometers.

Territorial reform

Tiefenthal was an independent municipality until 1945. The village temporarily became part of Markt Wörth until 1948, prompted by the US military government . From April 1, 1948, Tiefenthal was independent again. The wasteland of Wichenbach was part of the former community. Since the regional reform of April 1, 1971, Tiefenthal has belonged to the city of Wörth an der Donau as a district.

The area in Tiefenthal allows only a few new development areas. The city of Wörth developed the southern and western slopes of the Kirchberg. The construction of the federal motorway BAB 3 brought about a significant change in the landscape south of the village . However, the earlier route planning in the Third Reich would have brought even more sensitive cuts. The Gallowsberg was removed by further road construction work .
