Location of Wörthhof in Bavaria

Wörthhof - district of Wörth adDonau
Wörthhof - district of Wörth adDonau

Wörthhof ( Bavarian : Wiardhof ) is a wasteland and district of the Upper Palatinate town of Wörth an der Donau in the Regensburg district in Bavaria .

Geographical location

The place is located on the western edge of the Gäuboden , about two kilometers southwest of Wörth and one kilometer from the Danube .

history

Wörthhof , translated as Inselhof , formed a flood-free settlement area in the middle of the floodplain of the river before the dam and Danube expansion. In the south, the Wiesent flood reached the village of Oberachdorf and merged with the Danube flood to form a kilometer-wide lake. The connection with Oberachdorf was then only possible with a boat for days and since the ferry service to Pfatter was idle, the Wörth market could only be reached via Donaustauf or Straubing .

local community

The wasteland was originally a district of the Wiesent community and, at the instigation of the US military government , came temporarily to Markt Wörth between 1945 and 1948. On March 23, 1949 the place changed to the municipality of Oberachdorf . When Oberachdorf was incorporated into the city of Wörth adDonau as part of the regional reform in Bavaria on April 1, 1971, Wörthhof became an officially named district of Wörth.

Church parish

Until 1879 the place was assigned to the Catholic parish of Wiesent and changed to the parish of Wörth an der Donau at the latest in 1885.

School district

The Wörthhof children attended school in Wiesent until 1884. Then the place changed from the Wiesent school district to the Wörth school.

post Office

The post office in Wörth adDonau had been responsible for postal matters since at least 1875.

Flood polder Wörthhof

Wörthhof (bottom left): one kilometer to the Danube, in the middle of the planned polder

The planned flood polder "Wörthhof" is named after the wasteland of Wörthhof . The remote area is surrounded by the by the Bavarian State Ministry for the Environment and Consumer Protection planned about 760 hectares large controlled flood polders and would mainly be affected. Its retention capacity of around 16 million cubic meters would be used in the event of a very large flood event and relieve the downstream , including Straubing and Deggendorf . The city of Wörth an der Donau and all the municipalities in the area bordering the Danube as far as Barbing have unanimously and emphatically opposed the creation of controlled flood polders planned by the Bavarian state government to moderate flood levels on the Danube. The district administrator of the district of Regensburg Tanja Schweiger is also skeptical. The groundwater problem that has been known for years, caused by the Danube, and the threat to the drinking water supply of Wörth, which is also in the immediate vicinity of the planned flood polders, speak clearly against it.

On April 11, 2015, the CSU district chairwoman and Minister of Social Affairs Emilia Müller visited the district of Kiefenholz to familiarize herself with the problem of flood polders.

Due to the coalition agreement concluded between the Free Voters and the CSU after the state elections on October 14, 2018 in Bavaria , the flood polder concept is no longer being pursued in the Regensburg district. This was a key demand of the Free Voters. The funds released are to be invested in decentralized flood protection along the Danube and all its inlets.
