Geographical location

The district of Zinzendorf is located six kilometers east of Wörth on a foothill of the Falkensteiner Vorwald and about two kilometers north of the Danube on the edge of the Gäuboden . One kilometer east of Zinzendorf runs the border to the neighboring district of Straubing-Bogen and thus to the administrative district of Lower Bavaria . history

Catholic Church of St. Matthew in Zinzendorf

The name of the place is (as well as the nearby Zinzenzell ) from donation witnesses Zinzo from the Opi - donated around 780 to the monastery St. Emmeram in Regensburg derived. Zinzendorf was first mentioned in documents in the monastery books of Oberalteich under the abbot Wolfram (1184-1194). In a certificate , the name Dietricus von Cincendorf appears among the witnesses . The Austrian family of Zinzendorfer took their name from the Bavarian motherland to their new home in Lower Austria .

The history of Zinzendorf is also closely linked to the Church of St. Matthew. → Main article Church of St. Matthew (Zinzendorf)

After the Wörth district court was dissolved, Zinzendorf became an independent municipality from 1818 to 1945. From 1945 to 1948 the village came to Hofdorf temporarily on the initiative of the US military government . From April 1, 1948 until the Bavarian regional reform in 1971, it was again an independent municipality and joined the city of Wörth after a referendum. If the citizens had decided to join the municipality of Pondorf during the regional reform, the place would now belong to the district of Straubing-Bogen and the administrative district of Lower Bavaria .

The last mayor of Zinzendorf was Anton Schmidbauer. After the incorporation, the city of Wörth an der Donau appointed him former mayor .

Population development

In 1908 the population of Zinzendorf was 172 inhabitants, in 1971 there were 155 and in 2000 213 inhabitants. The population figures refer to the districts of Hof and Zinzendorf.

Spring water association

There has been a spring water association in the village since 1980. The planning and construction of its own water supply go back to 1909. Before 1909 there were already wooden water pipes. The pipes were modernized in the 1960s and 1990s, and in 2006 the entire water pipe was renewed. 14,000 cubic meters of spring water run through the company's own pipeline network every year.

Zinzendorf has been supplied with drinking water from its own well system since March 2014 and is therefore independent of the city of Wörth's water supply.

Zinzendorfer water war

Memorial stone water war

At the end of the 1970s, the city of Wörth wanted to connect the district to the municipal water supply, which the Zinzendorfer population strictly rejected. This led to a heated argument with the city. This led to the Zinzendorfer water war , which was also reported by the national media. After a sit-in strike by residents on July 31, 1980, the city of Wörth relented. A compromise solution was first agreed, which provided for the feeding of Zinzendorf's own spring water into the local municipal water supply. On the occasion of these events in July 1980, a memorial stone was erected in Zinzendorf. The city of Wörth later supported the Zinzendorfer's project, which in 2014 led to a self-sufficient water supply.

The Zinzendorfer water war occurs in literary form in the detective novel Spring Water .

Territorial reform

Since the territorial reform of April 1, 1971, Zinzendorf has been part of the city of Wörth an der Donau.

In Zinzendorf, the city of Wörth opened up a new building area at the western entrance to the town in 1988 and the "Baumgarten" building area in 2011 .
