Tim Van Berkel (* 29. June 1984 in Albury as Timothy Peter Van Berkel ) is a triathlete from Australia . He is a three-time winner of the long distance triathlon (2008 in Busselton , 2010 and 2011 in Copenhagen ).
Career
Tim Berkel started his first triathlon in 2001 and for the first time in 2007 over the long distance triathlon (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running).
Ironman 2008 winner
In December 2008, at the age of 24, he won the Ironman Western Australia, making him the second youngest Ironman winner - only twelve days older than the German Thomas Hellriegel when he won the Ironman Lanzarote in 1995.
In August 2010 he won the Challenge Copenhagen on the long distance and in 2011 he was able to successfully defend his victory from the previous year.
Seventh Ironman Hawaii 2014
In October 2014, he finished seventh at the Ironman Hawaii (Ironman World Championship).
At the Ironman Cairns in June 2016, he won the Ironman Asia-Pacific Championships, which were held here for the first time . In October 2017, the then 33-year-old finished 15th at the Ironman Hawaii and in 2018 he finished twelfth.
His nicknames are "Berkel" or "Berky" . Tim Van Berkel is trained by Grant Giles .
He has been married since March 2012 and lives with his wife in Port Macquarie .
