Titular diocese of Milevum
Milevum (also Mileve , Meleu ; Italian Mideo ) is a titular bishopric of the Roman Catholic Church .
history
The titular diocese of Milevum goes back to a former bishopric in the ancient city of the same name, (now called Mila ), in Numidia , northwest of Constantine , Algeria .
Mileve had been the seat of Christian bishops since the 3rd century at the latest , although at the time of Donatism both a Donatist bishop and one of the Catholics sometimes resided in the city. The most important holder of the bishop's see was St. Opatus von Mileve , who was a bishop there in the last decades of the 4th century.
Faustus de Mileve , who plays an important role in the history of Western Manichaeism , was born in Mileve, but was never bishop of that city.
In the 9th century, the last remnants of Christianity disappeared under the pressure of Islam;
Titular bishops
Among the titular bishops of earlier centuries is Nicolas Bonet (also Nicolaus Bonetus), OFM , the famous China missionary and participant in the embassy of Pope Benedict XII. to mention to Kublai Khan , who was awarded the titular bishopric of Mileve on his return in 1346.
