Anton Gisler
Anton Gisler (born March 25, 1863 in Bürglen UR ; † January 4, 1932 in Chur ) was a Swiss theologian and coadjutor bishop of Chur .
Life
The son of the community female Xaver Gisler and his wife Katharina geb. Schuler attended high school in Altdorf UR and Einsiedeln . From 1881 to 1888 at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, where he received his doctorate in philosophy and theology . Ordained a priest in Rome on October 28, 1887 , he was a teacher at the Cantonal School in Uri in 1888 and was appointed chaplain in his home town in 1890. In 1893, Bishop Johannes Fidelis Battaglia appointed him professor for dogmatics , pastoral care and homiletics at the St. Luzi seminary in Chur. In 1900 he was a co-founder and then an employee of the magazine Schweizerische Rundschau . He became canon in 1906 and in 1913 Regens in Chur. On April 20, 1928, Pope Pius XI appointed him . as coadjutor of Bishop Georg Schmid von Grüneck with the right of succession and at the same time titular bishop of Milevum . It was consecrated on July 1, 1928 by the Apostolic Nuncio in Switzerland, Archbishop Pietro di Maria . Co-consecrators were Georgius Schmid von Grüneck, the Bishop of Chur and Robert Bürkler , the Bishop of St. Gallen .
However, there was no successor as Bishop of Chur because he died a few months before his predecessor.
His most important writing is Modernism in which he in 1912 on the anti-modernist line of Pope Pius X stands. Contemporaries, however, attested him modernist tendencies.
