The Tobliner See ( Italian : Lago di Toblino ) is a mountain lake in the Italian province of Trento about 20 km northeast of Lake Garda .
It is located in the Valle dei Laghi , a valley framed by the Garda mountains along with several other small lakes. Castel Toblino , on the only island in the lake, is a popular photo opportunity.
The lake and the surrounding hills with their holm oak forests have been a nature reserve since 1992.
Emergence
The lake was created after the last ice age by alluvial cones that the river Sarca washed up and led to the damming of the lake. Since the commissioning of the S. Massenza hydropower plant in 1951 on the Lago di Massenza of the same name north of the Tobliner See, the Tobliner See has served as a flow basin, which is connected to the Lago di Massenza and the Lago di Cavedine via the Rimone Nuovo . As a result of this intervention and the associated massive water supply, the water color of the originally clear turquoise-green lake has changed to a milky, cloudy hue. This supply of water has also led to silting up due to sediments washed in and a drop in water temperature. The average water temperature in July is 14 ° C and in November 10 ° C.
Flora and fauna
The yellow pond rose , the cattail , the reed and the white willow are native to the lake . The reed beds spread along the banks offer numerous bird species retreat and nesting places. You can find here: the silkworm , the mallard , the pond rail , the coot , the great crested grebe and the gray heron . The lake is also used as a resting place for migratory birds during their migrations.
