Toll Uppity guys in rattling missiles (AKA Jules Verne's Rocket to the Moon ) is a British film comedy of Don Sharp from the year 1967 .
action
The heavily indebted US ringmaster Phineas T. Barnum flees to Victorian England. There he takes part in a lecture given by the German scientist Siegfried von Bülow , who invented the revolutionary explosive "Bülovit".
In his lecture, von Bülow discussed the possibility of using a huge cannon to send a manned projectile to the moon . Barnum is taken with the idea and tries to find investors. Due to enormously expensive experiments and idiosyncratic financial behavior by Harry Washington-Smythe , Barnum has to struggle with constant money problems. In addition, espionage and sabotage take place on behalf of competing states.
The projectile designed by Sir Charles Dillworthy has a critical disadvantage in that it cannot return to Earth. Barnum now gets to Gaylord Sullivan , a developer of hot air balloons , who offers a solution, but wants to travel to the moon with him. Dillworthy and his brother-in-law Harry Washington-Smythe embezzled most of the funds and are now trying to sabotage the project. Madelaine finds out about them, is kidnapped, but later escapes. She reaches the launch pad when Dillworthy and Washington-Smythe throw Sullivan from the projectile. The Russian spy Bulgeroff sneaks on board, and it takes off unintentionally. Once on the moon, the travelers find that the moon is apparently already inhabited by Russians.
background
The film is loosely based on the novel From Earth to the Moon by Jules Verne and was largely produced at Ardmore Studios in the Republic of Ireland .
Reviews
The Protestant film observer is ambivalent : “Unfortunately, the film is a bit shimmering - in terms of the script and the direction. The slap could have been more rounded and the joke even bigger. Nevertheless: for everyone. "The lexicon of international films comes to a similar conclusion :" Speculating in the German distribution title on the success of "The daring men in their flying boxes", the film does not get beyond average entertainment.
