Tom Lawson (born August 15, 1979 in Whitby , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper who played for the HK Sibir Novosibirsk in the Continental Hockey League from 1998 to 2010 .

Career

Tom Lawson began his career as a hockey player with the Markham Waxers, for which he was active in the 1998/99 season in the Ontario Junior Hockey League . He then attended Bowling Green State University for a year , for whose ice hockey team he played parallel in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association . In the 2000/01 season , the goalkeeper made his professional ice hockey debut for the Knoxville Speed from the United Hockey League . In parallel, he completed a game for the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks in the American Hockey League . The following season he spent with the Anchorage Aces from the West Coast Hockey League , for which he was only in a single game between the posts. For the 2002/03 season he returned to the United Hockey League, where he signed a contract with Fort Wayne Komets , with whom he immediately won the Colonial Cup . He himself was named the best goalkeeper in the league as well as the most valuable player in the playoffs and voted into the UHL's first all-star team.

From 2003 to 2005 Lawson ran regularly for the Hershey Bears in the AHL. At the same time, he came to two missions for the Reading Royals in the ECHL . In the ECHL he also played in the 2005/06 season , but for the San Diego Gulls , where he was 30 times in goal. At the same time, he played seven games for the Lowell Lock Monsters from the AHL. For the 2006/07 season the Canadian moved to Europe for the first time, where he was regularly used for Lukko Rauma in the Finnish SM-liiga . In the 2007/08 season he joined HK CSKA Moscow from the Russian Super League . With this he belonged as a regular force to the statistically best goalkeepers in the entire league. He spent the following year and a half at HK Sibir Novosibirsk from the newly established Continental Hockey League . There he could no longer convince in his second year, so he moved to Leksands IF from HockeyAllsvenskan , the second Swedish division. There he ended his career at the end of the season at the age of 30.
