Tomas Sauter
Tomas Sauter (born January 3, 1974 in Zurich ) is a Swiss guitarist and composer of modern jazz .
Live and act
Sauter grew up in the Biel area in Switzerland and started playing the guitar at the age of 10. From 1994 to 1998 he studied at the Lucerne Jazz School . A scholarship that he won enabled him to study for a master's degree in music from 2002 to 2003 with John Abercrombie at Purchase College, New York, USA. Since 1998 he has been teaching at the Jazz Pop Rock department of the Biel Conservatory . Since 2004 he has been a lecturer for jazz guitar and ensembles at the HKB, Bern University of the Arts .
In 1997 Sauter founded his trio "Tomas Sauter Tranceactivity" with Christoph Staudenmann (drums) and Urban Lienert (bass). The trio gave numerous concerts in clubs and at festivals at home and abroad. In 2000, Sauter recorded the CD "Out Goes the Rat" with bassist Samuel Joss and drummer Lukas Bitterlin. From 2001 he worked intensively with the guitarist Sandro Schneebeli. As a Duo Guitarthing they gave concerts in Switzerland and Spain. In 2002 there was a cooperation with the New York saxophonist Tony Malaby . In 2004 he was invited to concerts with the orchestra of the European Broadcasting Union as the Swiss representative . The collaboration with bassist Daniel Schläppi began in 2005 and continues to this day. In 2007 Tomas Sauter released a quartet CD with saxophonist Domenic Landolf , bassist Patrice Moret and drummer Samuel Rohrer . In 2010 drummer Jorge Rossy expanded the duo with Daniel Schläppi. Sauter was also invited by drummer Manu Katché to play with him at the jazz festival in Cully VD . In 2014 Sauter released the production Double Life with Ralph Alessi , Luzius Schuler and Dominik Burkhalter.
Tomas Sauter worked and played a. a. with the following musicians: Dominic Egli , Robert Morgenthaler , Bänz Oester , Alfio Origlio, Marcel Papaux , Sandy Patton , Norbert Pfammatter , Peter Schärli , Dejan Terzic , Laurent Vernerey and John Voirol.
