Tomáš Slovák (born April 5, 1983 in Košice , Czechoslovakia ) is a Slovak ice hockey defender who has been under contract with HC Plzeň 1929 from the Extraliga since 2012 .

Career

Tomáš Slovák began his career as an ice hockey player in the 2000/01 season at HC Košice . In his first season in professional ice hockey, the defender made 43 appearances. During the NHL Entry Draft 2001 , Slovák was selected in the second round as a total of 42nd player by the Nashville Predators . The following two seasons he spent with the Kelowna Rockets from the Western Hockey League . In the 2003/04 season Slovák was under contract with the Hershey Bears from the American Hockey League and the Reading Royals from the ECHL .

During the lockout of the National Hockey League in the 2004/05 season, Slovák returned to his Slovak homeland, where he played 33 games for his ex-club HC Košice. In the 2005/06 season, the defender played for the AHL club Lowell Lock Monsters and the San Diego Gulls from the ECHL. In the 2006/07 season, Slovák made a one-year guest appearance in Northern Europe, when he played six times for Mora IK from the Swedish Elitserien , and in the Finnish SM-liiga for six games at SaiPa Lappeenranta and 13 games for Ilves Tampere .

From the 2007/08 season , the Slovak defender was under contract with the Augsburger Panthers from the DEL . The contract with the Augsburg Panthers was terminated on January 5, 2009 and Slovák returned to his hometown club.

In the summer of 2009 Slovák was committed by Awtomobilist Yekaterinburg from the Continental Hockey League , where he extended his contract a year later. In December 2010, his contract was dissolved and Slovák was initially without a club, before he was committed in early January 2011 by KLH Chomutov from the Czech first division . For Chomutov he completed 23 games in which he scored 16 points, but received no contract extension after the end of the season. In July 2011 he received a trial contract with HK Dinamo Minsk , which was extended to 2012 a month later. After the contract expired, Slovák moved back to the Czech Republic for HC Plzeň in 1929 .
