Tomas Tenconi (born September 3, 1980 in Buenos Aires , Argentina ) is a former Italian tennis player .

Career

Tenconi played his first tournaments in 2000 on the ITF Future Tour . In his debut season he won two double titles there. A year later he was on the higher endowed ATP Challenger Tour in Sassuolo in his first double final. In 2003 he made his debut on the ATP World Tour in Palermo . After successfully qualifying, he defeated the top 100 player Irakli Labadze in two sets in the first round . In the run-up to this game, an unusually high sum had been bet on a Tenconi win, so match-fixing was suspected. He steadily improved in the world rankings and at the end of 2003 was close to making it into the top 200 in singles and doubles.

In 2004 he had a breakthrough on the Challenger Tour. In June he won his first double title in Reggio nell'Emilia , followed a month later in Rimini with his first single title. Due to his improved world rankings, he was in the top 200 in singles and doubles, and from then on he played almost exclusively Challenger tournaments. It made its debut at a Grand Slam tournament in 2005 at the French Open . He qualified for the singles field and met in the first round on James Blake , against whom he was defeated in three sets. He reached his career high in singles in June of that year with 141st place, in doubles a few months later with 145th place. In 2006 Tenconi won his Challenger titles three and four in doubles in Monza and Sassuolo , while he could not hold his position in singles and was no longer in the top 600 at the end of the year.

Tenconi only appeared in three singles and two doubles matches in 2007 and slipped further in the world rankings. In the following year he returned to the professional tour and won six individual futures titles, making him one of the top 300 in the world rankings again. In September he celebrated two Challenger singles titles in two weeks. He won the final in Todi against Rubén Ramirez Hidalgo and a week later in Naples against Lamine Ouahab . After these successes, he did not survive the quarter-finals at Challenger level and ended his career in 2011 after the tournament in Todi .
