Toni, male, midwife is a television series with 90-minute episodes on behalf of ARD Degeto for the prime time slot Endlich Freitag on Das Erste . The main character of the midwifery series is Toni Hasler ( Leo Reisinger ), who dares to take the step into self-employment after being released from the clinic and who works in the new practice partner, Dr. Luise Fuchs ( Wolke Hegenbarth ), meets again at his one-night stand from the midwifery carnival.
The first two episodes were broadcast on February 8th and 15th, 2019 at 8.15 p.m. on Das Erste. After the successful broadcast of the first two parts, episode 3, Scapegoat , and episode 4, A round thing , were broadcast on April 17th and 24th, 2020 at 8.15 p.m. on Das Erste.

Toni Hasler has a natural talent as a maternity care worker and loves his job more than anything - even if it is not always easy for him as a male midwife. When the 39-year-old lost his job in the hospital, he had no choice: he had to start his own business. The entry into the practice of the gynecologist Dr. Luise Fuchs can only afford Toni if he drives a taxi at night. Because the part-time father cannot even afford his own apartment in expensive Munich and lives with his best friend, Franzl , in a kind of shared flat for men to sublet. Unfortunately, a time bomb is ticking in the partnership with doctor Luise: There is a delicate secret between the two that he should reveal before she finds out. Toni also wants to come to terms with his ex-wife Hanna , who kicked him out because of a mistake at the midwifery carnival. Easier said than done. Because the "baby whisperer" has his hands full.

“Have you ever heard of a 'maternity care worker'? ARD presents us with a prime example in “Toni, male, midwife”. That can be seen very well. "
“Critics speak of the“ Mother Teresa ”genre. (...) All the more refreshing that a man who does not want to be a saint now penetrates this phalanx. The greater unique selling point, however, is his job: Toni, embodied in a credible and personable manner by Leonhard Reisinger at all times, is a maternity care worker. And one more thing differentiates “Toni, male, midwife” (Degeto / Bavaria Fiction) from series like “Die Eifelpraxis” (ARD) or “Lena Lorenz” (ZDF). Even if the obstetrician experiences one or the other drama: The tone of the two films is much lighter. Toni's relationship status as a man between two women alone ensures that: his ex wants a divorce - his new boss is the reason for the separation. "

They generate everyday life, they bring Toni & Friends to life. In “Scapegoat” the title character is supposed to be made into one and in “A round thing” a taboo topic comes up. In addition to the characters, the actors are the heart of the series. Leo Reisinger and Frederic Linkemann embody their eternal young men very authentically - with dialect and wit. The game by Wolke Hegenbarth is round in the truest sense of the word, and comedically great, and Juliane Köhler is once again on "climate change" tracks. "
