Episode 1 - First Aid from Berlin

Since the nurse Vera Mundt cannot find a permanent job in her trained profession in Berlin, she dares a fresh start and moves to the Eifel with her two children. There she meets Dr. Chris Wegner, her new boss (who has been in a wheelchair since an accident), in whose doctor's office she accepts a job as a care assistant. It is required on the first day of work, because a long list of house calls has to be worked through. Vera takes plenty of time for her patients, which promptly leads to initial problems with Dr. Wegner leads. Nevertheless, Vera cannot be bent. For example, she notices that something is wrong with the accident history of patient Hannes Limburg, a bank manager who looks strangely depressed, and investigates the matter. Also diabetes patient Lutz Kirberg, a stubborn, retired magistrate, gives Vera a headache. He suspects Vera and daughter Mia, as well as his Polish housekeeper Danuta, of stealing a very expensive book from his possession. Vera soon realizes who and what is really behind the theft and can therefore relieve Danuta in particular. Vera quickly becomes friends with her and they both become best friends. As expected, the move to the Eifel does not go smoothly for the single mother. While daughter Mia comes to terms with the new situation very quickly, there is constant trouble with son Paul. He cannot and does not want to come to terms with a future life in the province. He remains in close contact with his former friends in Berlin and misses his familiar environment in the Berlin district of Kreuzberg . In addition to Vera, this is felt in particular by his sister Mia, on whom Paul takes out his frustration. Until the family peace is somewhat restored, Vera has a lot to do in this pilot episode.

Episode 2 - A dose of life

Vera has now settled in well in the Eifel and Paul can handle the situation better now. Vera also has her job firmly under control and handles many house calls every day in order to take good care of her patients. Patient Max Bogner is a tough nut to crack for her. Max used to be an ambitious athlete and had a pretty girlfriend. Now the 20-year-old has been sitting in a wheelchair since a car accident in which he lost both parents and has completely isolated himself from his surroundings. Vera doesn't know how to get to him. Dr. Wegner, himself a paraplegic, wants to tackle Max the hard way, because he himself refuses to feel sorry for others. Vera, however, suspects that the cause of his lethargy and self-hatred is much deeper and tries, as always, with understanding and empathy, but also with her “special” approach to break the ice. It takes a long time until Max finally opens up to her. The headmaster's wife is also in a difficult emotional phase. However, Vera is convinced that the problems of 45-year-old Beatrice Ortmann are simply rooted in the menopause. Nevertheless, Vera needs to be careful here because she senses that Leon Ortmann has meanwhile also kept an eye on herself. Vera's best friend Danuta also has problems in this episode. She loses her job; would therefore like to immediately turn her back on the Eifel and back to her family in Poland. Vera manages to change her mind; she found her a new job with the Böhl family, where she was warmly welcomed by police officer Volker Böhl. His gruff mother Martha Böhl, who is to relieve Danuta from now on, is not particularly enthusiastic about the new addition to the Böhl house and makes Danuta's life a little difficult. With the sporty Dr. Henning Maurer, who Vera runs into several times by chance in Monschau, is finally moving into Vera's private emotional world.

Episode 3 - Fathers and Sons

Vera is amazed that daughter Mia suddenly no longer wants to go to school and therefore even pretends to be sick. When Vera later discovers that Mia is even secretly eating rowanberries in order to get really sick, she is more than concerned. It soon turns out that Mia is being bullied by two older students at school. Your brother Paul can just prevent the worst from happening in one of these incidents. Vera is therefore completely beside herself and forces school director Ortmann to act. Felix Leitner, Paul's best friend, also often stays with the Mundts. At breakfast together, he suddenly got a nosebleed. After extensive examinations it is clear: Felix suffers from aplastic anemia and urgently needs a bone marrow donation . When looking for a suitable donor, it turns out that Klaus Leitner is actually just his stepfather. The real father, Jakob Klier, can be tracked down quickly, but has not yet known anything about his fatherhood. Bone marrow donation is also difficult because of his alcoholism. Felix, who is now very affectionate by his biological father, not least because of his bone marrow donation, would like to live with Jakob for a while. His mother doesn't agree with this at all and works against it. In connection with Felix's medical history, Vera realizes that between the attending doctor in the hospital, Dr. Henning Maurer, and Dr. Wegner has a strange rivalry. That Dr. Maurer has meanwhile also kept an eye on Vera, exacerbates the situation even more. Too bad that Vera's ex-husband (Michael Mundt) also shows up in the Eifel completely unannounced. He particularly wants to improve his relationship with Paul and offers him the opportunity to live with him in his own granny flat in Berlin. After an argument with his mother, Paul is suddenly not averse to what really throws Vera off track. When Dr. Wegner gets wind of it, he tells Paul's conscience. It quickly becomes clear to him how important he is for Vera and especially for Mia. He shows true greatness and clearly rejects his father.

Episode 4 - A Question of Courage

During a conversation with Danuta, Vera witnesses how Hanna Reinhardt, a ranger from the Eifel National Park , runs into a street lamp and sustains a laceration on her head. In the practice of Dr. Wegner reveals that she has suffered further injuries of this type in the past two months and has been blind in one eye since childhood. Hanna plays that down and also lets the appointment for an ophthalmological examination expire. Vera desperately wants to find out what is really going on with the ranger and neglects her other patients. For example, the fall of the single pensioner Gertrud Leinen goes unnoticed, so that she has to wait for help lying helplessly on the floor for hours. That forces Dr. Wegner, who has often clashed with Vera because of her going it alone, to act: either Vera adheres to his guidelines or he dismisses her. Vera is insightful, but wants to stick to her self-image as a committed care assistant, even if it may cost her her job. Fortunately, Daniel Morel, an old friend of Vera's from Berlin, turns up in Dr. Wegner and can support you in this situation. Daniel is very important to Vera. When her mother died 18 years ago, he was doing community service on the ambulance. He stayed by her side on her deathbed for the last few hours. Since Vera was no longer in contact with the mother and only found out later about her death, she is infinitely grateful to Daniel for that. Vera persuades him to live with the Mundts for the time being until he has found something of his own in the Eifel. Paul doesn't agree with that at all. His girlfriend Charly suspects that he sees himself threatened by Daniel in his "area" and confronts him with it several times. Meanwhile, Paul has his eye on her sister Rosalie and is flirting with her. This leads to tensions with her friend Bruno, but also with Charly, who has actually been in love with Paul from day one. Vera also gets to feel this and, not least because of this, has no nerve to accept the advances made by Dr. Masons give in. Meanwhile, things are getting serious for ranger Hanna because she is now in danger of going blind in the other eye as a result of a fox tapeworm infection.

Episode 5 - Broken Hearts

Police officer Volker Böhl unfortunately has to have Vera's car towed away. Too bad that it happened exactly on her birthday and that the vehicle has passed the MOT on top of that. It is Vera's patient Hubert Meinerzhagen, of all people, whom Vera looks after on behalf of Dr. Wegner should only take care of that day behind it. The pensioner is a retired police officer and is still keen to enforce law and order in the manner of a block warden. With his opinionated and denunciating manner, he has already made many enemies in the village. Meinerzhagen is with Dr. Wegner is being treated for heart problems and the doctor suspects that he suffers from broken heart syndrome , for which the pensioner cannot find any explanation. But Vera realizes that Meinerzhagen must have mental problems that are somehow related to an unknown older man from the neighboring town. It soon turns out that this man's name is Klaus Mertens and that he is a former colleague of Meinerzhagen. Both have even known each other from childhood. However, they have fallen out with each other since Mertens was denounced by Meinerzhagen and therefore had to dishonorably retire from the police force. Mertens has never cope with all of this, is in bad health and still hates his former colleague very much. He rejects every attempt at apology from Meinerzhagen. Only when he realizes that his health problems are also related to their common past does a reconciliation come about. Without a car, Vera is really lost in her job. Out of necessity, she borrows son Tom's bicycle to visit her patients. Dr. Wegner takes heart and generously lends Vera his vintage convertible, which he has never driven himself due to his serious accident. Dr. Henning Maurer, who is working intensively on a relationship with Vera, suspects that Wegner only wants to make an impression on Vera. At Vera's birthday party, not only does this rivalry between the two doctors come to light, but Charly Ortmann's emotional world becomes apparent to everyone, because she is deeply in love with Paul. Unfortunately, Paul, who recently started a relationship with her sister Rosalie, still doesn't notice. However, he defiantly ends his relationship with Rosalie when he learns that she will soon be moving to her mother in Cologne and leaving the Eifel.

Episode 6 - Vengeance

Dr. Wegner moves his medical practice into new premises for financial reasons, but the business continues as usual with Vera and Anita. Out of the blue, Paul is flirted with by a beautiful but unknown woman, Claire Bonin, and they both spend the night very intimately in a hotel room. The next morning he wakes up there alone, but is still madly in love with her. Only a few hours later, both of them were very surprised when school principal Ortmann introduced Claire to Paul's class as the new substitute teacher. However, Paul does not know that Claire is also with Dr. Wegner is in treatment. His mother therefore quickly learns of the affair. Claire believes she has cancer and only has a short time to live. Dr. Wegner finds out, however, that this diagnosis is incorrect. In reality, she suffers from the severe intestinal disease Clostridium difficile , which can be cured by a stool transplant . Vera succeeds in convincing the sister Isabell Bonin, who has had an argument with Claire for many years, of the vital chair donation. Ultimately healed, Claire ends her affair with Paul, quits her job at the school and leaves Monschau again. Paul resents his mother's interference in his private life, blames her for Claire's hasty departure and moves out of home. But that's not the only personal setback that Vera has to take in this episode. Just when she is feeling particularly bad, Danuta is not there for her. Worse still, she is now closer to the school principal and has not told Vera about it. In addition, Dr. Henning Maurer, with whom Vera is currently establishing a new relationship, also breaks up his tent at short notice to help his former colleague and friend Ruth in their hospital in Tanzania . Vera is also disappointed with Daniel when she realizes the real reason for his stay in Monschau. Daniel is namely secret research on dance teacher Martin Hürtgen and is convinced that this his younger brother Soren Morel approached at night and then run driver has committed. When he tells Vera that if necessary he wants to get violently against Hürtgen in order to find out the truth, Vera has every effort to slow him down. Together they book a dance course at Hürtgen, perhaps to gain more clarity, but that only worsens the situation.

Episode 7 - Departure

Vera continues to hold against Danuta that her best friend kept her relationship with Leon Ortmann a secret from her and was not there for her at the crucial moment. But both get along again and spend a lively evening together. However, Vera worries that there may be talk of this secret relationship between Danuta and the school principal. After the failed short relationship with Doris, police officer Volker Böhl got himself a new date via the Internet. Böhl dresses up nicely, but is moved by the unknown woman and struggles with self-doubt. Paul is amazed when Charly Ortmann confesses to him that she was in love with him from the start, but that she has finished with this subject because of his ignorance. He is only now realizing how he has been hurting his best friend the whole time and apologizes sincerely to her. He asks her to found a “ buddy flat share ” with him and Finn Limburg after they graduate from high school . Charly tells him, however, that after graduating from high school, she and her sister Rosalie would like to go to New Zealand for a year - a fact that her father Leon is not enthusiastic about either when he finds out. But he has his own problems, as Danuta is now again at a distance from him. Daniel asks Vera to let his brother Sören live with her temporarily as well. She gladly agrees and Sören is taken out of the hospital into her and Dr. Wegner fired. Sören feels at home with Vera and befriends Fritz Hürtgen, who on the instructions of the school director provides him with school books and teaching materials. Patient Franziska Loer is a single mother of two daughters and works as a photographer. Due to chronic pain in her right hand, she cannot pursue her job and is overwhelmed at home. Vera quickly notices that her older daughter Edda is trying to compensate for this and is already at the limit herself. When Edda becomes weak and has to go to the hospital, the fragile family structure collapses and the youth welfare office comes into play. Dr. Wegner found together with Vera and Dr. Haidelbach found out that the photographer's health problems were caused by Hashimoto's syndrome, a severe thyroid disease . School principal Leon Ortmann assumes to Vera that daughter Mia probably needs glasses. Vera succeeds quite easily with a trick to relieve Mia of any fears about it. Paul is very supportive of his mother in this episode and ultimately makes up with her again. Encouraged by Vera's caring nature and professional honesty, he confesses to her that he would like to study medicine after graduating from high school and that he would like to bridge the waiting semester in the hospital in Simmerath until then . Vera is visibly touched and proud of her son.

Episode 8 - Matters of the Heart

Paul, who still lives in a shared apartment with Finn, is doing an internship at the hospital in Simmerath and often meets his mother there. With all the work he forgets that his best friend Charly Ortmann is going to New Zealand for a year in a few days. Sören has recovered well since his accident. He and Daniel are still living with Vera, but want to go back to Munich in a few days. To the displeasure of Daniel, who is still convinced of Martin Hürtgen's guilt, his son (Fritz Hürtgen) has found a real friend in Sören. But Fritz has health problems. Fortunately, Vera was around twice when Fritz passed out and went into cardiac arrest. So she saves his life. Dr. Wegner and Vera, together with the hospital doctor Dr. Julia Hamacher found out that Fritz suffers from the rare Brugada syndrome and needs a defibrillator . Fritz, who has meanwhile also noticed that Daniel Morel is accusing his father of Sören's accident, is overwhelmed by the situation and is afraid of the operation. Meanwhile, Sören also knows that Daniel suspects the father of his best friend. Ultimately, Martin Hürtgen can no longer stand the pressure and admits his guilt, which makes Fritz's situation with Sören even more difficult. Sören realizes how badly his best friend is doing and forgives his father after he apologized to Sören. Hürtgen finally wants to face his guilt and report himself to the police. Vera is so busy with her patients that Dr. Wegner also gave Anita Rabsal more responsibility and some of Vera's duties. Since Anita still has her difficulties with this at the beginning, Vera naturally supports her. Anita becomes more secure and takes on Vera's Mr. Rabicki as a patient. But when Vera found out later that Mr. Rabicki had passed away, she felt deeply affected and she realized how much she had grown dear to him. Danuta and Dr. Wegner give Vera strength in this situation. The fact that Paul wants to move back home after Daniel and Sören are gone makes Vera look ahead again.

Episode 9 - Body and Mind

After Daniel and Sören no longer live with Vera, things have become suspiciously quiet there. Vera is very happy when Paul moves back home. Since he wants to claim the largest room for himself, there are not only disagreements with Vera, who actually wanted to set up a yoga room in it, but daughter Mia also makes claims to the room. In general, her daughter seems to have mutated into a little child rights activist overnight. Everyone agrees that Mia has now hit puberty and more or less accepts this fact. But when Mia starts to distribute leaflets at school on the subject of "Children have rights" and also sprays a suitable graffiti on the school house wall, Director Ortmann notifies the police and calls Vera to the school. That doesn't suit Vera at all, because since Anita clinic assistant called in sick, Dr. Wegner Land under. When he was put out of action for a while by an accident with his handbike , Vera was left on her own. While she works for Dr. Wegner wants to get some things from his private apartment in the hospital, she finds a photo of him and her in a drawer. A subject that she absolutely needs to discuss with friend Danuta, who has always believed that the doctor is in love with Vera. Danuta has meanwhile thought about her secret relationship with the school principal and, to the delight of Leon Ortmann, wants to continue this. However, she does not want to give up her family in Poland. But what worries Vera most at the moment is her patient Bärbel Kuhn. She suffers from COPD and actually needs an oxygen device all the time, but refuses to use it. Through frequent visits to the Kuhn family, Vera becomes aware of Simon Kuhn, the son of Bärbel Kuhn, who shows strange signs of failure and keeps falling to the ground from a clear sky. Nevertheless, out of a sense of duty and tradition, he refuses any medical examination to the 150-year-old parental farm. When, while driving the tractor, both of his legs suddenly become paralyzed and he has an accident, he is forced to go to the hospital and meets Dr. Wegner in the next bed. His pregnant wife Lena Kuhn is now on her own with his sick mother and the farm. But when she went into labor , a solution urgently had to be found for the court. Bärbel Kuhn realizes that she urgently needs to support the young parents. She finally accepts the illness and the ventilator and finds a solution together with her farmer friend, Heinz Abel. Meanwhile, Dr. Wegner is certain that Simon is not suffering from multiple sclerosis , but that his disorders have a supraspinal cause and are therefore psychosomatic . He manages to convince him of an appropriate therapy. Wegner also manages to sincerely apologize to Vera for having offended her unnoticed during a recent visit to a former friend. He knows exactly what he's got in Vera.

reception

criticism

“With the Eifel practice it is easy to switch off. But the kitsch factor is a bit annoying. "

“What Vera doesn't do everything to help - that would whistle even at amateur theater. Even the little love affairs that arise in everyday life seem listlessly sloppy. The viewer better closes his eyes at these points. "
