Tonie Marshall
Tonie Marshall (born November 29, 1951 in Neuilly-sur-Seine ; † March 12, 2020 in Paris ) was a French actress , singer , screenwriter and film director .
Life
As the daughter of actor William Marshall and actress Micheline Presle , Marshall came into contact with the film business early on. In Jacques Demy's film comedy Die Maternity Pants , she made her screen debut alongside Catherine Deneuve and Marcello Mastroianni . Supporting roles in other film comedies followed. From the late 1980s she also worked as a director and screenwriter. Her second feature film, Die Detektivin , was presented at the Berlinale in 1994 and was shown in the competition for the Golden Bear . Her tragic comedy Schöne Venus with Nathalie Baye and Audrey Tautou was her greatest success; the film was awarded the César for Best Film in 2000 . Marshall was also able to hold its own against the competition in the categories of Best Director and Best Screenplay . Her love story, Paradise up close , in which Catherine Deneuve and William Hurt played the leading roles, competed for the Golden Lion at the Venice International Film Festival in 2002 .
Marshall died in March 2020 at the age of 68 from complications from a long illness. Her half-brother was the actor Mike Marshall .
