Tonoshō ( Japanese 土 庄 町 , - chō ) is a small town in Shōzu-gun of Kagawa Prefecture in Japan .
Tonoshō extends over several islands in the Seto Inland Sea ; but is mainly located on the island of Shōdoshima .
The small island of Teshima has been misused as an industrial waste dump since the early 1980s, in violation of legal regulations. The garbage caused pollution and nuisance for residents and there were numerous complaints to the prefecture, but these were ignored by the governor of the prefecture. It was not until 2000 that an agreement was reached between the prefecture and local residents.
