Stages and course of the race
The first three sections of the day passed without major topographical difficulties near the Gulf of Oman . Rabobank Cycling Team pro Theo Bos won the mass sprint of the first stage, while Matthew Goss ( HTC-Highroad ) won the second stage and wore the red jersey of the overall leader, before Bos hit back with another victory on the third day.
A preliminary decision about the overall victory was made on the fourth stage, which led inland up to the "Green Mountain", which was 5.8 kilometers long and an average of 10.3% steep. With a superior solo victory - the lead over the pursuer Edvald Boasson Hagen was 47 seconds - Robert Gesink secured the overall lead, which he was able to extend somewhat surprisingly with another day's victory in the individual time trial of Al Jissah , which also included two climbs. Mark Cavendish ( HTC Highroad ) secured the flat last section in the sprint .
