Tourist Trophy - The Real Riding Simulator is a motorcycle racing game for the PlayStation 2 .
development
Tourist Trophy was programmed by Polyphony Digital , who have dealt with other racing games such as Gran Turismo in the past . It was first released in China on January 26, 2006, and in Japan on February 2, 2006. With additional background music and other enhancements, sales began in North America on April 4, 2006 . It was released in Europe on May 30th and in Australia on June 1st, 2006.
Racetracks
Tourist Trophy includes 35 routes, the majority of which are real. As with Gran Turismo 4 , you can drive on the real race tracks such as the Twin Ring Motegi , Laguna Seca Raceway , Nordschleife , Tsukuba Circuit , Suzuka International Racing Course , Fuji Speedway and on the Infineon Raceway . The only new addition to the Tourist Trophy is the Circuit Ricardo Tormo . There are also several city routes in Tokyo , Seoul , Hong Kong , Seattle , Amalfi , New York and Monaco .
Vehicles and equipment
In Tourist Trophy, a lot of attention was paid to making the game as realistic as possible. More than 100 motorcycles from Suzuki , Yamaha , Triumph , Honda , BMW , Aprilia , Buell , Ducati , Kawasaki , and MV Agusta have been integrated into the game. It is possible to change the settings of the suspension, brakes and the transmission. The tire compound can also be determined.
Motorcycle clothing
In career mode, the player can dress his virtual driver in new clothes. There are also various helmets, gloves and motorcycle suits from the brands agv , Arai , Bell , Shoei , Simpson , Kushitani , RS Taichi , Dainese , spidi , Alpinestars and XPD .
Game modes
Arcade mode
In arcade mode , the player has the option of a time trial, against computer opponents or against a second player using a split screen .
Career mode
The career mode was adopted from Gran Turismo 4, it served as the game engine . The player has the task of getting better vehicles by competing in races. Compared to Gran Turismo 4, however, you cannot win any money, only new motorcycles and racing suits. At the beginning it is necessary to acquire driving licenses in order to participate in championships and races. The challenge mode is also integrated into this career mode. The goal in this mode is to overtake the opponent for at least ten seconds in different races or to win the race to get new machines. In the garage, the player can save the game and change machines.
Photo mode
The photo mode has also been adopted from Gran Turismo 4. It is possible to save individual pictures from repetitions on the PlayStation 2 memory card or a connected USB stick . The images can also be viewed in a built-in slide show mode.
criticism
Tourist Trophy was criticized for the fact that a maximum of four players (including computer opponents ) can take part in a race . The AI of the opponents, for example when overtaking, was also insufficient. As usual with Gran Turismo, there is no online mode with Tourist Trophy. Furthermore, the missing damage model and the non-changing weather conditions were criticized. Compared to Gran Turismo 4, only one new route has been added while some routes have only been changed minimally. This caused a lot of displeasure among the players for the development team. The online magazine 4Players rated the game with 72% (satisfactory).
