Traute Foresti (born March 15, 1915 in Küb am Semmering as Gertraud Stefanie Maria Luise Josefa Margareta Fritz ; † April 3, 2015 in Vienna ) was an Austrian poet , poet and actress .

Life

After a year of high school in Vienna and three years of boarding school for girls at the Kreuzschwestern school in Gmunden-Ort , Foresti completed the upper school in the Innrain high school in Innsbruck and graduated in 1934. In order to evade the strict upbringing of her father, she moved in 1935 after just one year Studied philosophy in Berlin , where she worked in the first few years as a volunteer and intern, as a nanny and after-school care worker, and as a private teacher and educator for various clients.

In 1939 she began her two-year course in psychotherapy at the Institute for Psychological Research and Psychotherapy and took acting lessons from Paul Günter from the Deutsches Theater Berlin until she moved to Vienna in 1941 . In 1942 she completed her acting training in Vienna by taking an examination before an acting committee and has since used the stage name Traute Foresti.

Her artistic career began in 1942 with readings of German and Far Eastern poetry and from the 1945/1946 season onwards she was a member of the Vorarlberger Landesbühne in Bregenz , where she played Lady Milford in Friedrich Schiller's Kabale und Liebe .

In parallel to her acting activities, Foresti worked for the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation . Initially employed as a speaker in Innsbruck and then in Dornbirn , she later took part in radio and television plays in Vienna and, together with Janko Musulin, designed the literary program Welt des Buches . Until the 1990s, she made a large number of contributions, most recently mainly for the series ex libris .

Foresti saw himself as a mouthpiece for literature, as the voice of poets; she wore texts by Friederike Mayröcker , HC Artmann , Elfriede Gerstl , Hermann Schürrer , Josef Enengl and other group freeboard ago, when they were still little known. The nickname “fairy godmother of Austrian literature” earned her numerous lecture tours that have taken her across Europe since the early 1960s.

As a teacher of speech and voice training, she had well-known students such as Axel Corti , Christine Edelweiß , Jörg Jannings , Gerhard Jaschke , Hermann Gmeiner , Käthe Lentsch , Erika Remberg , Dietmar Schönherr and Karl Michael Vogler .

She only began to publish her own works late. 1985 appeared her first book with poems and chansons with death you will be my last love . In the following years, among other things, the volume of short stories Encounters on the Milky Way (1990), the volume of poems Arrival and Farewell or Between Fish and Scorpion (1992), Das absolute Du (1994), a "reading book" of prose texts and conversations, the volume of poetry Es brennt der Mohn (1997) and Picking Down The Silence (2002).

Foresti died on Good Friday 2015 at the age of 100 in Vienna.

For editing the collection of New Bulgarian Poetry. 1300 Years of Bulgaria (1980) Traute Foresti was awarded the Bulgarian Order of Saints Cyril and Methodius .
