Career
Carrick spent his junior years until the summer of 2011 in the lower Canadian junior play classes in the province of Ontario , including in Markham and his hometown of Stouffville . For the 2011/12 season , the defender was signed by the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors from the Ontario Hockey League . After completing his first season in the OHL, in which he was named to the league's second all-rookie team, Carrick was selected in the fourth round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft in 115th place by the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League . Since Carrick's team changed their nickname during the summer break, he played for the Mississauga Steelheads from then on . He stayed with them for a further year and a half until January 2014. A few weeks earlier he had been signed by the Hurricanes for the 2014/15 season . With the foreseeable end of his junior career, Carrick tried to win a title by switching to the Sudbury Wolves, but this did not succeed.
At the beginning of the 2014/15 season , the 20-year-old Canadian was used by the Hurricanes on their farm team , the Charlotte Checkers , in the American Hockey League . There he was in the squad the entire season - as well as the following. Carrick made his NHL debut during the 2015/16 season when he played two games for Carolina. He also took part in the 2015 Spengler Cup , which he won with Team Canada , and also completed the AHL All-Star Classic . After the defender, the complete season 2016/17 had spent in the AHL, he nevertheless was one of the eleven players the Carolina Hurricanes before the NHL expansion draft in 2017 prior to selection by the Vegas Golden Knights protected . Shortly before the draft, Carrick had extended his expiring contract by a year. The breakthrough in the NHL was not granted to him in his fourth and fifth professional years, in which he was only used two more times in the North American elite class and was still part of the regular staff of the Checkers. With the Checkers he won the Calder Cup at the end of the 2018/19 season .
In August 2019, Carrick was given to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for Kyle Wood , with whom he directly signed a new two-year contract.
