Deanery churches
The church deanery (also called Trierische Insel ) is a Roman Catholic deanery in the diocese of Trier . It takes its name from the place Kirchen (Sieg) in the Altenkirchen district in Rhineland-Palatinate . The seat is in Betzdorf , Decizer Straße.
It is an exclave of the Diocese of Trier, it borders on the Archdiocese of Cologne , the Diocese of Limburg and the Archdiocese of Paderborn . The deanery of churches was established in 1869 and confirmed in 2004. It consists of the parish communities Gebhardshain - Elkenroth , Heller - and Daadetal , Kirchen - Betzdorf and Niederfischbach - Mudersbach .
In the 19th century the church deanery consisted of the parishes of Dierdorf , Großmaischeid , Horhausen , Isenburg , Neustadt , Peterslahr , Waldbreitbach , Betzdorf , Brachbach , Fischbach , Gebhardshain , Herdorf , Kirchen , Mudersbach and Wetzlar .
In 2006 there were 35,787 Catholics in the deanery, 50.5% of the population (70,865).
In the 2011 census there were 30,805 Catholics, 46.2% of the population (66,654).
